rex j | Can I re-wire my home with or without permission, I am not a qualified electrician ---UK thanks? |

You can rewire it but you will need a qualified electrician to check and prior to certificate being awarded.
The actual laying of wire and connecting sockets is easy but time consuming, save a lot of money by doing that part yourself.

Hi there,
Yes you can re-wire your home without a permit but it is important that you have a licensed electrician do it who carries insurance in case anything happens you're not responsible. I had this done to my home recently.

You could and nobody would know. But your home insurance would be void and if the resulting fire damages antother house then you are personally liable for that as well.
Just get a qualified electricion to do it. Its much safer for you and your family. Also, go by word of mouth or go to CAB to make sure you get a good one. |

I believe that home re-wiring has to be carried out by a qualified electrician as per the new laws/guidelines set out in the last two years. However as a general rule of thumb if your a tenant talk to your landlord; if you own your house talk to your insurers.
The regulations, which came out in Jan/Feb 2005 state that all electrical wiring/rewiring should be certified by a qualified electrician, it doesn't seem to say you can't do the work yourself, it does say that the work has to be certified by a qualified electrician. |

The simple answer is yes. You can undertake a re-wire on your home or indeed any other property for that matter. To comply with the latest regs. you need to get your installation certified by an approved NICEIC electrician who is certified to sign off your installation but if you are rewiring your own property this is pretty unenforceable. |

Something could go seriously wrong and if someone is killed due to your wiring you could be charged with manslaughter |

No is the answer , the way things are going , one won't be able to put a fuse in a plug before long , without it being tested |

Even qualified electricians aren't allowed to wire their own homes according to the guy that fixed my washing machine. |

No you are not allowed to touch any electrics unless you are a Corgi registered electrician. If you did it and anything went wrong your insurance company would'nt pay you a penny. |
|

mistincat

That's risky man..you shouldn't mess with that if your not qualified to do so..consult a professional. |

NO! any rewiring by law now has to be certified by an electrician! |
|

I think you would find that your mortgage lender will not be happy nor your insurers if you rewire yourself. rewiring should be done ONLY by a qualified registered electrician.
If your house burns down as a result of faulty rewiring done by you then your insurance will be invalid. |

U need to be certified |
