I work in a small company with 2 other employees and the Dr. and his wife. One other employee is entirely impossible to get along with and she has the Dr. and his wife wrapped around his little finger, the other employee and I have stopped talking to "the problem" completely, so the wife and the other employee are trying to make our lives miserable. Can the Dr. fire us for not speaking to the other person? |

Not rightfully... But if physical problems occur between you or the problem employee or hurtful words.. then yes. It could then be deemed harrassment.. BUT if they dish it out just as bad.. then not just one should get canned. If you do get "let go".. Then you could potentially have a suit against them.
I am going through the same thing right now with an employee I work with.. UNFORTUNATLY.. I have to swallow that very large, bitter pill dry.

Not really, unless the employee complains that you're creating a hostile work environment. This could present a problem. I would professionally conduct yourselves at the office and do what is asked. You'll have a case if you are fired. I don't see them firing two people that would hurt the business. Just keep your nose clean. |

If you're not under some kind of merit protection, like state , federal employee, your boss can wake up and think you're ugly and fire you. They need no reason to fire you. |

Barring a contract to the contrary and a few discrimination issues, in almost all states, your employer can fire you because he/she does not like the way you comb your hair. |

You can't fire someone for not liking another employee. However, you can fire someone if their behaviour is disruptive to the business. So, as long as your behaviour is not interfering with the operation of the business, you can't be fired for not liking someone. Not speaking could be disruptive to the operation of the business because communication is important to running a business. |

A co-worker can be a real pain to work with and they will never get fired if the employee doesn't choose to fire them. You may could complain of a hostile environment that the irritating co-worker causes, and could sue if you get fired because of complaining about it. |

Your employer can fire you for any reason they want, if you are legally classified as an at-will employee. They may have to pay you severance, depending on the state and circumstances of your termination. |
