ok pobept had a pretty good answer so i'll build on that.
you can gather your own "wholesale list" for free and maybe 20-30mins of your time. a really easy way i learned to get legit wholesalers for free is decide what product you want to sell lets say its ipods. find out who the manufacturer is: for ipod that would be apple its simply the company that makes the product. call apple and see if you can buy wholesale from them most likely they will say no(manufacturers are into making products and selling in HUGE order, but if you get lucky you might be able to get the leftovers of a big bulk order) no worries simply ask them who their wholesaler is and they will gladly give you the name number and address of their wholesalers. its that easy. no money involved its straight from the source so you know theres no scam. if you dont even want to wait on the phone you can often times email them and get a response back. i've done this before i just emailed the manufacturer of what i wanted to sell and within 4hrs they emailed me back a list of their wholesale distributors.
now as for buying from a wholesaler. wholesalers buy the HUGE orders i mentioned manufacturers ship out. wholesalers then break these orders into smaller orders that stores then sell to the public individually.
1)the wholesaler are selling the product for pretty cheap without much markup so they make their money by selling in bulk. in other words their profits are very small on each item so to make up for it buy selling alot at one time(kinda similar to the manufacturer but on a smaller scale). you will almost definitely have to buy a minimum amount when buying from a wholesaler for instance one place might require you buy at least 400 quantity or spend at least $5000 per order. and of course simple economics the more you buy the cheaper the price will be per unit. for example if you by 400 products it might cost $100 each but if you buy 900 products if will cost $90 each
2)a wholesaler has to get you to prove that you are a legit business before they sell to you wholesale they risk their own business license if they dont any "wholesaler" who does not ask you for proof(most likely tax id) is not a real wholesaler they are the middleman jacking up the prices i dont care what you've heard they are not the true wholesaler.
once again when i finally got the wholesaler's contact i wanted to buy from they wouldnt even give me a quote on prices until i faxed them my business id and tax id.
main things to get from my answer 1) do not buy a "wholesale" list simply contact the manufacturer 2)get a state and/or federal tax id

Find a product you are interested in then work out whether there is a trade industry magazine for that particular product. You will find reputable wholesalers more easily this way. |

There is a Catalogue type book called The Trader, (not the one that sells cars etc.) you can buy it in WH Smith. It is a wholesale advertising magazine specifically for the purpose you want. |

I joined sometime IN 2005 and I have been doing great with it.
If you join from this link i can help u out as much as i can.
I take in close to $1000 a month for doing almost nothing, once u use some of the promotional material and u can also use flyers, and u can do all this from home. I know someone who takes in over $4000 a month, but i personally have never done that big amount in any given month, but who knows i may one day, this is a side job for me as i do my other job which is fulltime from home as well, but it's my own business and i don't have an affliate program for that .. take care and sign up.

generally, a wholesaler will not sell to anyone that does not have a read business, with proper business permits, TIN number etc.
Also most wholesale businesses have a Minimum that must be purchased, they generally will not sell just one or two items at a time.
good luck |

For wholesale one would usually buy direct from the manufacturer or from a cash and carry for small mark up goods such as ambient groceries. You only start to make real profit if you can buy goods in bulk. |
