If you are operating an online business or a mail order business, there shouldn't be any problems. However, if you are going to turn a bedroom into a showroom and have people come and purchase items, you will need to check into your zoning laws.
Even the old Amway business model of distributing products from your garage didn't require business zoning because it didn't meet the requirements for zoning. Check with your city zoning commission if you are going to run a "brick and mortar" business.

The home has to be zoned for the type of business you are considering. The city in which you live determines that. |

So long as there are no restrictions in the area that will prevent you from doing so(check with the planning depart at city hall) and that your business does not create any environmental issues or excise disruptions to you neighbours then it is perfectly legal to run a buss. from home. |

Insurance is not always a requirement but zoning is. you have to check with your county officials first to make sure what, if any businesses can operate in the dwelling. They may have regulations regarding signs or parking things of that nature. The nature of your business will be an issue as well. |

Zoning and landlord policies will have a say on what you can do for renting a home to start a home based business. It also depends on just what type of home based business you're looking into or have. Some zones says you can't have a business that allows you to babysit so many children as a "day care". Some says you can't have a home based business where you have to stock products because of insurance liability. But if it's a business you're working just strictly on the Internet and no stocking required and no real selling out of the home, you might be given the go ahead. That's what I'm doing... I don't have to worry about stocking, I work from the telephone and the Internet and I don't sell out of my home where people come here and stuff. You question is to vauge. What type of home based business are you planning on starting? Have you checked with your city regarding zoning? Have you spoken with your landlord? Please supply more information. |

You would have to ask the landlord that. Zoning needs to be correct and you need to carry the proper insurance. |
