I applied for a clerical position at this bookstore, which clerical/administrative experience. But this is my first week and I want to give this a chance because it could lead to being an employee? Yes, it can happen. It happened to me. A company hired me as an independent contractor to work on several projects part time; after a few months they decided to hire me as a full time employee. That job lasted almost 4 years. While I was there, I saw the same thing happen with 2 or 3 other people - they were also initially hired as part-time contractors, and then were eventually offered a real job.
How likely this is to happen to you probably depends on the track record of your employer - do you know if any of the full time employees started out as contractors? If yes, find out from them what their experience was like. On the other hand, if you can't find any, then don't pay much attention to what your employer tells you - actions speak louder than words. |
