Can people really work from home and the companies are real?

It's called telecommute. Some very large corporations actually do this. But there are a lot who are NOT big corporations with a problem of scams. Beware.

Yes, but probably not. Normally people who work from home either set up their own business or they work at least some time in a base office that supervises them when they are spending hours in their home, usually on the phones or on a computer.
Consider, if you were running a business, whether you would rather have someone pay their own way to your cheap office to sit in a large empty room with a lot of tables and other people and put address on envelopes, etc., or would you pay shipping put the addresses and supplies in the mail for possible loss, to be put on the envelopes by whatever grubby fingers are at the other end to be sent off uncertainly at some vague time.

Yes you can, but I think generally you would be hired on through a company and then request to work at home.
Telus Mobility offers that along with Pizza Pizza I believe and probably some other companies that recieve a large incoming call volume.

yea i was wondering the same question...

and i browsed through some of the answers above me, and ive tried a few of those websites, like:

-ripped wallet
-fairytale treasure
-a few others

just my opinion, but dont waste your time joining those website, ive spent alot of hours working for them and havent reached 10 dollars, and i've looked at all sorts of tricks to make more money on such sites. However, they have no immediate effect on your income. Just be careful about what website you join, some (even though i havent run into one) are scams.

sorry though, i still dont know of any website that pays semi-well for the effort put into doing work, but if i find one, ill keep you posted. :]

(ps alot of people from previous answers, suggested to start your own website, dont know if its worth the time, but just an idea)

Be careful. A lot of so call work at home business are actually scam.

YES people can and do really work from home successfully.
But be cautious. If it sounds to good to be true it is? Or talk to the person and ask a lot of questions - network marketing can and does work despite some bad PR of years ago.

Sales is your best option - find a product you like and can speak about - and hope that there are not a lot of sales people doing it too in your area - that is your option -

Upfront costs? So that means education then, studying at university is a scam because they want to be paid for the degree you do.

No, sorry but such claims that anything upfront is a scam is one of the most ignorant comments I have heard and continue to hear from people, who had bad experience because:

1. They got suckered into it because they want money NOW and when they found out it takes work, they got burnt. Instead of researching through government contacts, proper professional channels on the company and so forth.

2. They listen to their mates, opinions of others and they themselves live in fear and have never really taken a big chance.

3. Opening a bank account now wants money upfront. So is that a scam?

4. Having a job and having some of your wages backed to such you can't have it but work another two weeks to get some money because they keep that money, just in case you leave on the first week. Now, is that a scam.

Let me say why I answer this:

I run a business from home. An Internet business and it makes more money, employes more people as EMPLOYEES and Freelancers and the company I am competiting with has 45 staff. I have 100 staff and they are global and we use the internet to send files.

We design broadcast solutions, to websites, to designing comics, to writing and producing our own books, programs, softwares and animation.

Now, if I took that foolishness that everything is a scam because it's money upfront, I would not be where I am today. Actually, one of mates said same thing about how "upfront money" is a scam.

He's was in a job that he hates, and now unemployed, while I earn and make money and good money at that. Whenever I want, wherever I want. And kitchen and my bedroom is couple of steps away.

So no, not everything is a scam. What is, is people's GREED to want something for NOTHING. They want it NOW. They want it SAFE and take NO RISK whatsoever.

Yes, people can work from home but you know why some don't? Simple answer:

When you do that, it means....you are responsible to bring money in NOT your boss who goes out and gets contracts. That is why the BOSS can fire anyone here, if they work for a boss and they complain as much as they want on how unfair boss is and how rubbish their jobs are. They are working for someone else because they CHOOSE TO.

The other reason why people don't run business from home is because it takes DISCIPLINE. No fear of boss now will get you up but if you don't get up, you don't make money. It is easy to suddenly wake up 11am and the day has already started to slip away.

The other reason is, comittment to getting a business plan done, getting clients, chasing clients, writing your own client contracts, seeing all sales, seeing marketing, and all the things THE BOSS did.

The final thing people don't business from home or ANY business is....they have low self esteem. They lack focus, they do not have a purpose and they live in this Fantasy Land that their boss will save the day if the company goes down, and their job is there FOREVER. Now, that is what 80% of what people do and think.

You can run a business from home. All you got to do is make sure, that if its someone else's products or services that:

1. You check the company NOT from friends, families and co-workers who failed in life or who are not where you want to be. But from government agencies. And if anyone say, they failed on this or that, then look them right in the eye and say, "LISTEN - I am not like you. I will DETERMINE if I QUIT and make it happen. And when I want an opinion of your failures, I'll ask for it." People give opinions for FREE even on illness, when they're not even professional doctors.

2. When you checked with all government agencies then check with one more. The DTI. The department of Trade Industry. They clamp down on scams and any business that is not run ethically.

3. When all is ok, then....you go for it.

4. If it your own idea, own products, services then start with writing your own business plan. The reason for business plan is to be clear on what you want to do, why, where you're going and...your comittement to finishing the business plan correctly.

If you DON'T finish the business plan...then, you have now come to an understanding...you ain't got it because you're not willing to do the basic foundation of what to do in business.

The rest of you who call out "SCAMS." Get a life please. The world, from Tax, to University degrees to fork out thousands, to working for one month and then get paid...IS ONE HECK OF A SCAM if you say...."anything that's wants upfront is a scam."

You work for one month with nothing till end of the money...then you get paid. Oh, you're gonna say, "That's different."

Listen to your heart mate and do thoroughly research. 95% are online and 95% are people who follow the masses and do not do business but work for someone.

How they heck they gonna know what a business is. Hope that helps.
