I have always wanted to do this too but never got around to it. As for suggestions start out making your products and hand samples out. Put your business name, number and the product's title on the label. If you can create a logo too.
During or right before the holidays create flyers and put them around your neighborhood, place of worship, workplace just to get started with a client base. A friend of mine made cheesecakes for $5. His friends would buy them for birthdays or party events. This is a marvelous way to start.
If there are flea markets near you see if you can rent a booth and sell your baked goods that way. This is also an excellent way to broaden your client base.
The sky is the limit as to what you can do. The idea is to present a fabulous product, make more than enough money to grow the business and get off to a running start.

Did you first conduct a survey to see if such a business will be profitable? If not, then do one as you will need to know the rough figure of your potential customers. As you will be conducting this business from home, how will this affect your electricity bill? How hygenic is your home because should any of your customers complain of food poisoning, they will sue you? How are you going to transport your products? Do you have the necessary skills in baking, that is you have to be better or be on the same par with those already doing this business? However, all these questions can only be answered if you have the necessary finance. How many people are you going to employ bearing in mind that the minimum wage has just gone up, if you are in the UK? Remember in business it is not always rosy, so you need finance to back you up when things are not moving well. Good luck! |

You can offer your services right away just place adverts in all the free ads and start receiving orders. Just sort out what you want to sell, will you offer catering etc.
Use the list below to publish free adverts, you can find loads more on the net but i find these bring the most sales leads. Remember to register as self employed (UK) and work out your real costs when pricing, its not just ingredients allow a payment for your time, power for he kitchen, delivery and tax and NI.
Remember it may take 6 months to a year to build up a regular customer list so it may be worth keeping your day job until the business build s up.

hi, good luck.....been down that road, own business, theys loads of help out they, ask your bank for a business plan, look in telephone book for "Business Link", they can give you money for 52 weeks, like an allowance also help and support you will need to get business of the ground by they adviser's.....they are really good......I just wished i knew of these people when i had my business......Good Luck Again....Anthony |

Make sure you contact the appropriate officials in your area to make sure it is legal to sell food out of your home. Many cities and states have strict codes you have to follow to sell edible items out of your home. It might be worth it considering a fine could eat all your profits. |

depends what the business is, have you written a business plan with a business advisor thats one of the first things you should, to make the business is viable!!! Also have you considered financing do you have any capital or are you relying on loans if so you'll difinatly a business plan |

It's very personal and it depends on how you define a good career or business. First, set a goal for what? do you want in life. Plan what you will do to reach your goal.
I always tell people this, 'You can make money if you can create website or blogs'. by providing free and good information.
I'm 41 now, work from home in shorts and T-shirts and sometimes topless. I set my target as low as to make 1 dollar/page/day. I strive to create a new page for my websites everyday but I have all the freedom I need and making money 24/7 on the internet with Google Adsense and some affiliate programs. The only thing that tie me down is 'how much income I want or need'. Because the more websites and traffic I have will determine how much income I can much.
Anyone who can create websites or blogs to provide lots of good information can make money from Google Adsense. Blogger.com and Google pages lets you create blogs for free and allows you to make money too.
You can make money by joining me or Google as a publisher and publishing Google Adsense on your websites. If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money.

See if you local college does a Business Studies for Small Business or your Local Chamber of Commerce will be able to give you pointers.
Make sure you have done all your hygiene catering courses. Roughly cost out how much ingredients will cost and how much you would need to charge.
Also if running business from home check the Inland Revenue/Custom & Excise rules about business use.
