Can someone tell me if there are any legitmate home businesses out there that are REAL?

I've been scammed and lost over 2500 of my hard earned money to people who promise big but deliver little, are there any real businesses

Yes there are legitimate home based businesses out there. However, it sounds like you didn't get much help and advice with your business. Look at it this way, Donald Trump lost over a billion dollars on one of his early business ventures. He learned a lot from that experience, as I'm sure you did.

My advice is to go where the money is and that is travel. Travel is a $7.1 trillion industry and growing every day. A Baby Boomer is retiring every 8 seconds and the first thing they want to do is travel. The average family in the United States spends $4,200 annually on travel. This is why my wife and I started our own online travel business. Weâ€™ve looked for years for a home based business and this is the first thing that made sense to us. You can also learn to save thousands on your taxes and travel wholesale instead of retail. The company that we work through is publicly traded, SEC regulated, is a DSA member, and even offers health insurance. They even send their top agents on a cruise to the Bahamas. No one else does this. We love this business!

There are, but finding them is the problem. I wrote a blog on advice for working from home. It's not a commercial for any program. What it will do for you is help you find the right company for you.

There are so many different home based business to start up. Things from Child Daycare Centers, Plumbing, scrapbooking, Telecommunications, fishing charters, Candle Making, Travel agents, Tax Preperations, Health etc etc etc. You can turn just about any type of business into a business that you run out of your home. Their are many different types of home based businesses. Most home based business cost under $500 to start. So, if I were you, I'd start a home based business.

When starting a business, their is no money at first. You have to build it up. No matter what business you get involved in. The more effort you put into it and how hard your willing to work it, will depend on when you start making a sufficient amount of income. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. Some businesses are hard manual labor, while others are mainly phone and computer work. No one can say how much a business will make. That depends entirely on you.

In home based businesses, depending on which one you get involved in, it usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks to start making an average income. 4 to 6 weeks to increase that.
and 3 to 6 months to be self sufficient. If you put the time and effort into it. Most people start their business on the side if they don't have a cushion to live on while they build their business. This will allow you to build your business much quicker. But most people have full time jobs and run their business on the side. When their business reaches the income level they desire, they put their normal jobs down and continue to build their business with or without help. That part depends on you.

Not knowing what you like to do, I'm not sure who to refer you over to. I can tell you what my husband and I have for the past 6 years and refer you over to my blog that I created on Home Based Businesses on my 360 page. Your more then welcome to go and take a look for some more ideas. We have built our home based business and it supports our entire family of 6 (we have 4 children ages 10, 6, 3 and 1)

We got involved in the Telecommunications industry, like I said a little over 6 years ago. We picked this one because the income opportunity is just incredible, as it is in most home based businesses. But in this, it seemed more practical. We partnered up with a 15 year old world wide company that offers services that people use every day and pay for anyway. Services like Local and Long distance telephone services, Internet, digital, video, VOIP, Satallite TV, and all the major cellular phone providers as well.

How many people do you know, or know of around the world that uses one or more of these services? I think just about everyone has one or more of these services. You save people money on services that they are already using and paying for, and offer them services that they don't have, but would like to. Every single month these people pay these bills that they are going to every month, you make a percentage. You get paid every single month for these services over and over again. This is a very profitable business to get involved in.

You've received a lot of good comments and many links to various opportunities. I too will add mine.

Let me share with you a little of my experience and add my two cents worth.

There are many businesses opportunities advertised on the internet, many of them legitimate, successful businesses, many of them not!

It takes diligence to weed out what's what.

Without intending to pin tickets on myself, I consider myself a reasonably well educated person with professional training and life experience behind me, but........

I have been 'taken for a ride' with a couple of online opportunities offering much and providing little - or less - nothing. I lost money when I could least afford it and I became very angry. Not as much as you though - I feel for you.

Having said that, I was also desperate to improve my financial situation and being a 'suddenly single' mother of four who has health issues, I felt that home based business was the only way to go.

So, I started researching - DETERMINED NEVER TO BE SCAMMED AGAIN.

In short, here's what I've discovered:

For any business to be legitimate, it must offer either a product or a service. If it doesn't offer product or service then it is a scam and illegal.

Be aware of get rich quick schemes - there is no such thing. Any legitimate business takes work and effort on your part and requires building. It takes time to build the foundations of any venture - how much time is dependent on your own efforts and relatively speedy advancement is certainly achievable if you are prepared to put in the hours. (As the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.)

Ensure the organization offers full support and training. It's easy to sign someone up for a business but it takes commitment and effort on the part of the enroller to train and support you in your efforts. Make sure you are not going to outlay your money and then be left with no communication or help.

And speaking of money - determine how much the business is going to cost you to get started and what that fee actually gets you. If it only gets you permission to view a certain website then I'd seriously think again.

It is reasonable to expect some start-up and on-going costs in a legitimate business - no such thing as a free lunch - but determine, not only how much is will cost you to start but more importantly, what your ongoing costs will be. A business may be low cost to start but then require an outlay of thousands of dollars each month to qualify you for your pay.

Don't be forced, convinced, badgered or 'talked into' committing to a cost which is above your budget, no matter what the apparent 'limited' offer may be. Many scammers offer you a reduced price but 'only for today' for instance. If a prospective business partner is not prepared to help you achieve success without causing you undue financial stress, then I'd be steering way clear. You know how much money you have to invest in your business, whether that be $50, $500, $1500 or more. Anyone offering you a business opportunity should be able to cater to your budget to a certain degree.

Ensure than any organisation you are looking at joining is listed with the Direct Selling Association. Direct Selling and Multi Level Marketing businesses are very legitimate and legal and are certainly not pyramid. Pyramid schemes are illegal. MLM and Direct Selling businesses are very, very profitable if conducted in the correct way. Check the company's Compensation Plan to see what benefits you are entitled to and how teams are structured. This is very important as some team structures result in a high attrition rate, which benefits no-one.

There are many, many legitimate home businesses out there. I am curious about which company scammed you and how that scam went. There is a difference between a scam and whoever signed you dropping the ball and leaving you swinging in the wind. That doesn't make it a scam, it makes the person unethical who brought you into the business.
There is a great deal to learn about running a home business, the same as learning how to run a commercial business. A big part of it is self-educating. Very important. When I bring people into my business, I deliver on the promise I make to help them every step of the way, but I also screen them first to make sure they are willing to learn and coachable. Otherwise I am wasting my time and theirs. I do not guarantee that they will get the same results as I do, that would be impossible. They have to show me they are interested and really willing to learn and work, if they keep up their end, I keep up mine and we both win!
