Can someone tell me the difference between RRP and a price that is stated on an item?
...and can someone legally sell something for more that the price on the item (it doesnt say RRP in front)
basically i bought something of ebay for £10 but when i received it, it wasnt what i was expecting.it had been embelished somewhat and there was a price of £3.99 on the back (it was a small set of childrens books)
i always thought it was illegal to sell something for more that the stated price unless it said RRP.
any help would be appreciated
thanks in advance

The RRP is the recommended retail price and if you purchase something. This applies if you buy something new, but if there is a lower price tag on the item you should pay this (but the shop keeper can refuse to sell you the item if he thinks the price tag has been changed fraudulantly).

The RRP does not apply when buying things second hand as some goods appreciate in value due to supply and demand factors.

If you feel the books you have bought are not as described and you feel you have been decieved by the seller you should follow ebays complaints procedure, email them saying you are unhappy and if they do not offer a refund start a dispute through ebay. This way ebay may assist in getting a refund from the supplier. You can also leave negative feedback if the dispute is not resolved to your satisfaction.

Whatever.
It would be against manufacturers guidelines in a store but as you bought it off ebay, the same rules don't apply as its a bidding site, you pay what you think its worth.

RRP is recommended retail price. this is usually higher than the price a shop will sell goods for. but it is not law. a shop who sells higher doesn't inform customers they are going above RRP. As for Ebay i'm afraid the price you agree to pay is final . unless the person you bought them from is a licenced trader.

Unfotunately RRP is the manufacturers recommended retail price, it is up to the vendor whether they charge less or more than this. By selling you the goods at a higher price no law has been broken.

FruitCake
RRP = reccomended retail price.
so u can sell it for wateva u want reeli but ppl usualli say 'o look my price is underneath the RRP! buy now wooo!' lol
its not illegal, just stupid cos ppl no if its above the RRP then they can get it elsewhere for less....

I think its fair and square on e bay as you bid for it, and it could be more wanted now than when sold. For instance a rare record could go for hundred quid when RRP was £9.99.

I'm not sure about the prices but you may be able to return the item if the seller did not give an accurate description of the item on ebay. Selling items above a RRP is not illegal but false adverstising is and that includes giving false descriptions on ebay. Good luck.

The RRP is the reccomended retail price, the price the maker of the product suggests you should sell it for. It's not legally binding, some shops sell for less than the RRP especially at sale times, also some items sell for more than the RRP, like rare items.
In your case the seller MIGHT have contravened the trade descriptions act (if he lied about the books value) but you can sell items for as much as you like irrespective of RRP

The RRP is the Recommended Retail Price. If people are willing to pay more I don't think that's illegal. However if this person on ebay gave an inappropriate description of the item which led you to believe that it was worth more then you may have some recourse. I would ask them initially if you can return the item. If not then complain to ebay (or Paypal if you used that method). Good luck!
