Can you buy things from one store and sell it at yours?

ganja_claus
Not necessarily!

It very much depends on the product.
If its designer clothing eps. brands like Boss, Chanel and Amani you might get into trouble for selling those unless they approved of your store.
They want to sell a shopping experience as well as the clothing and want their product to be placed and presented in a certain environment.

Its the same with less expensive brands:
Like you couldnt just go to Mc. Donalds and then sell the Burgers you bought in your pizza bakery.

What you need in these cases is a "franchise contract" with those companies.
You need to buy the right or license granted by a company to an individual or group to market its products or services in a specific territory.

Sure, but i don't see how you could make a profit.

jdkilp
Absolutely. I know lots of small retail stores that buy in bulk from Sam's Club.

Sure....the only thing that you might have problems with would be alcohol....if it is beer or wine you are buying from somewhere else you might want to check your local laws.
However; alcohol is the only exception I know.

Yes

Yes you can but you may not make any money buy at retail prices and re-selling. Also you can present the store you buy from a tax form with your tax number and you do not have to pay the sales tax on whatever you buy from them if you resell the item. You do then have to charge tax on the item when you re-sell it and you do have to send the sales tax into your state.

Ya-sai
Only if it doesn't have the store's name on it. I guess you are buying cheap and selling more expensive, in that case, if the store finds out, they may up their prices

vincyprincess1
Yes I think so

Sure. Some businesses do this just to satisfy customer demand so that customers think of them as having EVERYTHING I NEED WHENEVER I NEED IT.

These items could be sold at no profit or at a loss until the quantity of purchases warrants obtaining them in quantity from a wholesaler or the manufacturer.

The key to any successful retail business is to keep customers coming back for more.

Based on the question as asked and nothing more:
Yes, you can buy things from anywhere and sell it in your own store. ....it's a free county.

But why would you??

There is middleman and markup. Buy cheap and sell high. If you bought it at my store, I'm going to have marked the price up, because I have expenses to pay (rent, electric, insurance, salaries), I need to make a profit or I will not stay in business very long.

Example: You buy something from me for $10, and you turn around and now sell it in your store for $11:
a) smart shoppers are going to shop around, so you might not get the sale anyways
b) I only paid $2 from the MANUFACTURER/WHOLESALER/DISTRIBUTOR,
c) i have made an $8 profit,
d) whereas you are only getting rich with a $1 profit,
e) you would have to sell 8 of them just to match the profit i made selling one of them,
f) my out of pocket was $2 and I made $8,
g) your out of pocket was $80 to make $8.
Make sense?

Jim Justice
Yes you can. That is how price club, Costco and Sams club became so big. They offer a large variety of items to the small retailer. Its a little different today as you know, but that was the principal of their success.
The other thing is no matter where you get the best price, you need to make a living, so where it comes from does not matter. So yes, you can do it and feel good about it.
