I am 22 and recently started my own business with trying to sell Arbonne products. I decided to do this because I love the products so much! They are fantastic. However...I just recently moved to a new area, I don't have any friends or family here, and I have nobody to really get my business started with.
I would like people to ultimately have "Arbonne Parties" to learn more about the products, try them out and some would win free products.
But how to do this when you don't know anybody?? I've found some interested Customers through my full time job, but I can't sell very much there as it could be a "conflict of interest". I don't go to church, and the people I go to school with do not have an interest in spending a ton of money.
I have recently decided that just opening the phone book and cold calling people in my area might just be the only way to get the ball rolling, but I am concerned about breaking laws, or rules...I don't want to give Arbonne a bad name, either...

Ok, enough negative posts...I know people are annoyed with cold calls!! I am annoyed with cold calls and often hang up on them...however, I also know that I can present myself in such a way as to NOT be intrusive!! "Hello, do you have a minute? Are you busy? Oh, you are...is there a good time I can call you back??" "No, ok well, thank you for your time." Not all cold calls have to be rude and invasive!!
I am looking for people who have had experience doing this and who know from personal experience whether it works or not...

First of all, have you spoken to anyone in your upline to explain to them how you feel ?
Also, don't get discouraged, if done correctly network marketing can be very rewarding. You are doing this part-time, so don't expect overnight success. This is a process and takes time.
As far as leads are concerned, don't bother cold calling. In addition to the reasons mentioned by others, these will not be targeted and you will just waste productive time.
there are several things you can do to get your opportunity in front of as many eyes as possible. These are all fr*ee.
First, you should place classified ads at sites, such as www.Craigslist.com and www.backpage.com These are fr*ee to place ads. You can target a local market. Just make sure that you change the ads a bit if you are going to place more than one for different locations.
You should also place classified ads at Direct Matches and head over to Adland Pros, which is similar to Direct Matches.
These are excellent online communities where you can advertise and promote your business with other like minded business people.
you can also place fr*ee classified ads here to get more exposure for your business. They also have a very good traffic exchange that you should join.
Just read the instructions to join the traffic exchange.
Another good traffic exchange is Traffic Swarm ....
traffic exchanges are very good to get your ads in front of many eyes. Just participate in the fr*ee exchanges. It is based on surfing the net and viewing other participating advertisers and you receive credits. The more credits you have, the more your ad is shown to the traffic exchange members.
Go to forums, including the ones at Direct matches. Post to forums...do not do blatant advertising or you will get banned. Set up a signature file and put you website there. Some forums have specific areas for fr*ee ads...use those, too.
I listed the URL's of some of these sites in the source box below.
This should get you started with some online marketing to kick start the business.
Also, check with your Arbonne sponsor to see if they have any lead capture pages as part of their marketing system. If they do, you want to send traffic to those pages to capture names of people who have an interest in Arbonne and these are now targeted leads that have opted in for you to call.

Cold calling is NOT a good idea, regardless of whether or not it is illegal. However, having short conversations with people you meet everyday is a better way to go. Since you are in a new area, you obviously have the thoughts of:
"How do you meet people? What do you do? How do you meet people? What do you do?"
Running through your mind over and over again.
So I suggest you try this. Next time you are somewhere doing a normal everyday activity, whether it's shopping at the grocery store or pumping gas, ask someone this question:
“Are you from around here?”
It's a non-threatening question as you are asking for help. When they answer, "Yes" or any other affirmation, just let them know about your business. Simply say something like:
"I was wondering. I’m with a company that is growing all over the country, and I’m looking for people who want to earn some extra income from home. Do you know anyone like that?”
If they answer anything like:
“Yeah. Me. What is it?”
Then just present your business card. Remember to get their phone number and/or email address so you can communicate with them later. Obviously, if they answer "No", you should ask, "Do you know anyone who would?" Hope this helps.

If you are in the U.S then cold calling is illegal to anyone on the "no call list". You can be sued. Put up ads in the grocery, salon, anyplace you visit...but cold calling will get you in trouble. |

Well ive been there, I moved to a new area to start my business and I didn't know anyone. What I did was made flyers and distributed out to the neghborhood. I knew I had products that people need and would sell. I took the ultra conservative approach to it. I would pass out 1000 flyers a week, I knew I would get atleast 100 people who were intrested in buying from me and thats how I started my business. I feel that if your on a tight budget and no website, then flyers and word of mouth is the best.

Be very wary of calling folks cold, as they may be on the Do Not Call registry. You need to check that first before calling.
As someone stated before, put up flyers in grocery stores or bulletin boards... |

I personally do not like people calling me trying to sell things. If I want something I will find it. You could make fliers and put them up in your favorite grocery stores with your number and help people have the parties. Do you have samples that can be distributed? And get out and do things and make friends. It will take time. If your customers from work are happy, they may buy from you again. Do you have literature that you can distribute to interested people? Just take your time. I don't know the rules about this, just what bothers me after getting hime from a hard days work. Another possibility is having a booth at a fair. |

Have you tried putting out a Prize at the Mall ?
You know like you always see with a car to win or whatever.This way you could get addresses w/Tel#. Just be clear that your Prize will be from Arbonne, like a gift-Basket worth some Money. This way you will only get People interested in the Product. Hope this helped. |

First of all, great question and there are no stupid questions. Network Marketing has allowed me to be a stay at home mom.
Network Marketing is regulated and a highly sophisticated industry that works and as an associate of your company, you want to represent your company and products by being a good steward, right?
To get to the point and answer your question, in the US and Canada, its illegal to do what you suggest and on top of that, the CAN SPAM act was passed in congress, so you can't e mail people you don't know, either. You will be fined!
You seem to have an up beat personality and I believe you can actually set appointments with people you are getting to know in your area to share your opportunity. You have hidden skills even though you are new in your area.
Take your new people you meet who "qualify" meaning, people who have expressed an interest in the product or business to a meeting locally in your area and use the tools and up line leaders with three way calling.
When calling prospects you have not met, you must pay for your advertisements or pay for your leads because these people requested business or product information and its legal and if they are good leads from a reputable company... They are expecting your call.
Get training before you pick up the phone, because it is an investment in your business and you want to do it right.

Cold calling today is OUT. Trust me. I've tried that very successfuly in the 80s. That time a telephone was practically the only tool for effective direct marketing and I had to do 60 phone calls a day, every day, to book 3 presentations out of which I averaged 1 sale. That was straight commission sale. Did I make money? YES a lot of money. Did I get burned out? YES very quickly. Do not do it.
You are with network Marketing company -- Network then.
Your success rests in duplication of your efforts, not in the volume of direct sales. Now how duplicable will you be for those who join you when you ask them to do the same?
(100 phone calls a day please) They will leave you in a hurry.
19 months ago I moved back to North America starting my business in February 2007 all over again with no relatives, no close friends. I do it every day at work up to about 100 people a day. Some people get bothered but never offended. People are interested in buying not in being sold so your approach is real important. Persistence pays off as I have learned that it could take 100 calls to find that one customer. |
