I'm 15 soon to be 16 and i thought it would be a good idea, part for money and part for college app, to start a business. This would be very small and start with just friends but i was thinking of converting slides and negatives of photos to JPEG and putting them on a disk. this question is mostly how successful this would be and if it seems like a good idea. thanks

Nothing wrong with the idea, and there are certainly a lot of photos around that could stand converting to an electronic format.
That being said, the market is still limited, and you'd need to do some research with your potential market to determine if anyone is interested in the service, and if so what they might be willing to pay.
Your pricing will need to reflect your costs, including your time, and a reasonable profit. Check to see if there are other businesses in your area offering the service, and what they are charging. As a home-based business your overhead expenses are less than a larger business, so you may be able to price somewhat below market to provide value to your customers.
If you decide to go ahead with the business, remember that treating your customers well, offering consistently good service and value, and delivering high quality will make you successful.
