if you have a car/truck then put your name on it. next put a small article in the paper. as well if you have myspace, hi5,facebook, put it on there people browse a lot if they see it then they will talk. business cards get a few hundred. then put them in coffee shops nick knack shops and on cork boards. where are you going to get your supplie like U.B.C or Menard ask to put cards there. next find like laundromats and just places like that. give some to your friend and people you know they will hand them out. if you have friends that work in factory ask them to put the cards on the lunch tables and what not all those are for the most part free or cheap and make a big impact. good luck |

Yes, you may think of leaflets and posters, so that you'll introduce yourself to the general public. Also, make some online advertisements.
You should always be able to prove your qualities of a carpenter showing some of your works. And if you are really good at this, you will succeed.
I wish you luck! |

Advertising is only get you to a start. Word of mouth is the most effective goes a long way. Try focusing on giving your first customer the best and cheapest service with a Smile. Be attentive to their needs. Give sound advise to their problem to demonstrate your expertise. |

You're better off targetting your ads at particular customers.
Lots of DIY and home improvment stores have notice boards. By putting them there, your ads will be seen by people who are more likely to want fitted furniture than just random people on the street.
Also, you could put flyers on cars which are parked in furniture shop car parks. That way, you'll have a very good chance of reaching people who are in the market for furniture.
Also, get to know other craftsmen in your area (painters and decorators, shop-fitters) who can put work your way. And good luck with it. |

you can advertise your new business via the internet. Go on message boards, craigs list, forums. Anything to try and get the word out. You could also go around your local community and ask if you can post a flyer in their store window. You can also try posing them on bulletin boards at markets or laundry rooms :) |

yes - when in business letting people know you exist is always good, and there are loads of ideas which can cost next to nothing.
advertising is just one way to market a business - and can be the most expensive! so whilst your business is new keep things creative and if something doesn't work then don't be afraid to stop it and try something new!
don't forget to ask new customer's where they heard of you so you know what's working!
and perhaps try a recommendation scheme to get your business established, for example if existing customers recommend you to a friend they could have a voucher each for M&S or somewhere.
for your line of work tho one of the best ways to promote your business is to showcase your work - perhaps there are trade/craft fairs, or home shows/exhibitions which you could go to with some samples of your work and a stack of leaflets/business cards etc.
good luck with your new business venture. Rebecca |

It's an absolute waste as far as advertising goes.
If you want to do the "copies" thing, you're best best is to go to the town hall where you want to target your business and get a list of home owners and directly mail to them. You can apply for a bulk mail permit with any post office and send all your leaflets via mail. This way it's all a write-off too come tax time.
Your best bet in the meantime is to make a great ad for Craigslist believe it or not. My boyfriend is a builder and he puts many of his jobs on there and hires from there as well. I work in real estate and get a good chunk of my business this way. It's a great way to advertise for free.
Then once your business picks up and you can budget for advertising, you can think about local TV ads with Comcast. It's not as bad as you may think but not easy from the get-go.
Just remember than any money spent of self promotion in a business is tax deductable!! If you have a work vehicle, get some of those toss on magnet with your name and logo until you can afford lettering. My brother is a roofer who saw his biggest increase in business after he started advertising on his work trucks.
Best of luck to you. It's not easy but well worth it. One last thing, don't forget there is free money everywhere for first time businesses, for small business, for minority owned business owners, women in business... there is money for everyone and don't forget about the old stand by "small business loan" from almost any bank. |

What I suggest is that you write a business plan or a look into grants at http://www.cfda.gov/. This link will assist you understanding how to do the writ ting also. There is research time consuming in both, but from my experience it is kind of easier to write a business plan, but grants are no strings attached on paying back the monies, but make sure your i's are dotted and you t's are crossed, to insure getting your money at timely manner. You will also have to apply yearly for the money also. |

I think ye you should do that but hire like two teens to help you out, you would nto have to pay them that much and making leaflets is so cheap you would be able to make so many and hand them out around your target location. You would not be able to hand them all out byyourself but ye its cheap and easy im suprised you didnt think of it before its most people first choice in a small time business.
Also try putting adverts in yellow pages and local newspapers and also if you can try local PR. Make the local press look at you and then make a story to get free advertising |
