I make jewelry for fun and realized I need to sell it because I can't afford to keep making it alone. I have a website and "business" cards with my cell phone and a website I pay for. I have no employees. I have an eBay store that is not profitable. I want to make jewelry for a coffee shop where I work, and sell it to them for a wholesale price. I really can't afford a business license. So what should I do, get a loan? Or do I even need a license to do this when I have no employees? I'm just 21, help me out here :)
You never did say what State or City you're in. Go to the state controllers web site and look at the requirements for business licenses and also go to your city web site and look at their requirements for business licenses.

Yes, but the type of license is dictated by local regulations. The best place to check is the county clerk's office at the courthouse.

If you are retailing locally you need a vending license. Call zoning and talk to them; it might not be all that much.

You need to collect and remit sales tax. You need a vendors license. Business Tax(license) is for storefronts.

i don't think anyone cares if you are making about 5-6k a year. if you are pulling 10k a month, get a license and why do you still work at the coffee place. and business license in general will not cost you more than a couple of hundred.

well im 20 years old and i have my own business. You need to contact your office that deals with business liscenses in your state. every state has different regulations. I had to get one to open my store, but thats different. you might need a peddlers liscense. Just contact your state business office and they will help you.good luck. usually dept. of commerce office.

Business licenses are usually issued by cities for people who do business within the city. Every city has its own laws. Either check with your city or the local chamber of commerce.
In addition you will need a state license in order to collect sales tax. There is no charge for that.

You need to contact your locality and find out if they require you to have a business license. If your locality requires you to have one then yes you need one, but they may just require you to pay like $10 to register your name as a sole proprietorship
