I am looking to start buying videogames in bulk from the wholesale section on Ebay and then selling them for proffit. Would I need to declare myself as a business and would I need any sort of permit/license to do so.
I'd really like to do this nd dont want to run the risk of doing something I should not be doing.

Don't think you need a licence.
Check out your local 'Chamber of Commerce' as they will be able to give you all the help you need and can help with grants ...for example: they can buy you a bulk pack of jiffy bag envelopes, an address label printer or even a better computer if yours is 'not up to the task'.
When i started being a market trader they got me £1,500 worth of stuff. :-) |

No license but maybe a tax id. If you end up selling in state you are responsible for paying taxes to your state.
I never tried buying from the wholesale section on Ebay but to my knowledge with past wholesalers you need to provide them with something proving you are a business: business card, tax id, business license, etc....(but its not too hard to just print out your own business card at home)
Anyways i might look for another wholesaler if i were you if they don't ask you for any of the above to order. because usually wholesalers are REQUIRED to ask for it to give you the CHEAPEST wholesale price. In other words if the Ebay wholesaler doesn't ask you for proof of your business even though the prices may seem cheap you can probably get a better deal elsewhere.

make sure you plan out your business well before you start investing. to my knowledge video games do not have that high of a mark up and also video games are a pretty saturated market on Ebay, so it may be a lil difficult to get into it.
But as long as you have a good plan and know the strategies in pricing, selling, and budgeting you'll do fine. Good Luck!

It all depends on the laws of the state in which you operate from. If you are starting a business you will need a license.
The amount that separates a private sale from a business sale is defined by your state.
It pays to check it out because it is not the back taxes that hurt it it the penalties and interest.
Welcome to the reality, the only thing the government excels at is collecting taxes from the little people.
Note to Sarah. If your friend is making big bucks, sooner or later the government will catch on. |
