Yes you do have to be registered, you will also need to have a police check (which can take ages!). I don't think it takes too long to get registered as child minders are in short supply. |

what is up with you, you will be working with very small children and you think you can get started without any checks....there are far too many nasty/cruel/filthy carers out there... Be one of the best, ....Be patient-mums will trust you far more if alls above board......Good luck. |

Yes you do have to be registered, and whilst it might seem like a long time, it should be completed within a couple of months (unless the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check office is overrun, in which case it could be much longer). Actually, it will probably take you this long to read through all the guidance and get your house ready for childminding and future inspections. You really do need to be aware of the national standards and guidance on this- it is a big step on from babysitting or even bringing up your own kids! But good luck to you. |

Yes! you must be registered. |

just trying to make a difference

it would be very irresponsible to get started before you are fully registered! and you wouldn't have much credibility either..
you need to be OFSTED registered for safety reasons so you must wait until you have been granted permission to begin caring for children as a childminder.
for the qualities and skills you need, as well as training and entry ie how to get registered see this job profile http://www.learndirect-advice.co.uk/helpwithyourcareer/jobprofiles/profiles/profile770/
it also has some links which may be useful for you to look at. |

I'll say!
And you'll have to have a full CRB check. |

No is the honest answer. The registration process is to enable the relevant people to check your home, health, police record, get you insured and a whole lot more before parents entrust you with the most precious thing they have.
If you are caught caring for children whilst unregistered, the parents are given 24 hours to find alternative carers- not a good start for your reputation. Please don't go there. |

Yes you do and you have to take courses etc and have a visit from the authorities to make sure your house meets the requirements etc and you have to have the relevant checks too. If you started before all this you would be in trouble if something went wrong. |

Yeah you have to do all the paper work first more than likely a parent would not send their child to a childminder without being registered. it will be worth the waite |
