Some do, but generally the shipping charges also pays for the materials (boxes, packing materials, tape, time it takes to mail, etc.) it costs to ship and the actual price of shipping. Remember, it's a shipping and HANDLING fee. Also make sure you're not buying something from a foreign country, that's happened to me before, while not paying attention to what I was buying. |

Yes they make tons of money. Ebay says this is against their policy but they do not truly enforce it. People do it so people will buy the item without looking closely at the shipping charges and then they are stuck with it for pretty much a little more than if they had paid more for the object itself but with lower shipping. It sucks just be careful when you shop. |

Go look at e-bay's selling policies. Sellers are not supposed to do this. They do this all the time, in reality. But, it is against e-bay's policy. I won't buy when I think the shipping is unreasonable. There is always another seller waiting to sell you something for a reasonable cost and accurate shipping. Do your homework before buying! |

Absolutely. Some companies do this as well (computer maker that starts with a "D"). It is a good way to reel someone in with cheap prices, then when they are feeling good about "saving" money sock them with overpriced shipping. |

You are correct. There are may dishonest people doing business on eBay.
I do not know if eBay still has the 'excessive shipping charge policy' in effect but they use too. |

I have sold items on ebay. I give best guess estimates on shipping. It may be free to get a box from the grocery store but it does take time and gas to drop off the package. While this is the case I may guesstimate a shipping price of $5 when in actuallity the"shipping" is $4.50 (carriers charge). The 50 cent overage covers averything else (packing material, tape, boxes, labels, time and travel to drop off the package). If my guesstimate is several dollars more I will refund the money directly to their paypal account which is why my rating is ALL positive. At times I have undershot the cost. |

Some try but some also include a handling fee. ebay has major rules about that..all you have to do is report them if you suspect any over charges. Just dont use that seller then. |

Yes, some of them make all their money this way, putting up a $1 auction plus the actual price for a shipping charge. |

yep. most do but a few out there are honest about it and put what it actually cost to ship. the ones that hike up the price claim its a "handling" fee for time and packaging. but how hard is it to get a box from a local store and put the item in? |

First of all, people sell the exact same thing for diffrent prices, all depending on how much they would perfer for the item, secondly, they live in diffrent locations, where shipping and handling ranges from prices, and they could be using a diffrent size box, or even a diffrent shipping plan, like 1-3 buisness days or 7-14 buisness days, ect. |

Margins are very tight at Ebay and the only profit some sellers make is on shipping. |
