Do you know about any good online alternatives to ebay?
I am trying to establish an online business on some venue besides ebay because of their exorbitant fees and I was wondering if anyone could make some suggestions about other online sites that are possibly better than ebay.
I don't know any thing about them but you can check out ubid.com and ubuyit.com

Storefront or auctions?
I use Craigslist for what little I do.
It works well for localizing markets, and the cost is right.
You may want to add it to what you do.
There are a number of considerations for a Storefront.
Do you have a website? Do you need hosting? Do you do your own billing? etc.

Craigslist is GREAT but because there are so many people advertising there, you really need someone to teach you how to properly do it and how to differentiate yourself from others.

I wouldn't say there is anything better or more popular than ebay. There are many ways to save on the fees, you just have to know. I pay almost $200+ a month to ebay/paypal listing auctions, fixed price and store inventory around about 200 - 250 items, so that is fair. In the beginning i paid too much because i didn't know how to save on the fees.
So if you're interested, send me a message, i'll look at your store and tell you what you can do to save more.
As for other sites, no other sites are more popular than ebay and craigslist (ebay owns 25% of it) is still not really a market place like ebay. So yeah. Good luck.

Try Amazon. They don't even charge you unless your items sells! If you are trying to sell something that is not already on there then you will have to enroll in a program that does charge a monthly fee but then you will be the only one selling your item - no competition! It is similar to an eBay store. If you are selling quite a bit of stuff you might want to check-out opening your own website. With all of eBay's fees coupled with paypal fee's it might be better saving you some money in the long run. You can still run a few items through eBay to advertise for your website. Your website will only be known by people you give out the link too or find it through search engines. eBay is shopped on by the world - so it's good to use for advertising until you get your feet off the ground. Good luck!
