Ok....Check this out.
I have been making this snack for years. I have always been known to call it "puppy chow". I have tried many different variations, and many different recipies. After about 10 years of trying, I think I have it just right. It has a corn flavored cereal, chocolate and peanut butter covered in powdered sugar.
I can make at least 4 variations of the snack, and I have been told by many that I should sell it. This was never the point of me making it, but it is something that I have thought about.
No one has ever told me that it could be better, or have heard of anyone saying that it wasn't particularly good. So does anyone think that I could actually sell this stuff and do well with it?
I don't have a degree in business mgmt or anything, and in order to push it I'm sure I would have to package it in a attractive way, but all that aside for now. I would just like to get some opinions on what ya think.

1. change names, its not dog food but I am sure Purina will come after you for using one of their most famous names.
2. to sell a food item, in bulk, you need to go through the FDA. if you are just selling a few from home, your car, then sell them and pocket the money. but if you put a professional wrapper on it, sell it to stores, etc to resell. Then FDA must have approved it first.
3. 90% of business owners never went to college. Bill Gates never finished. Remember, no biz starts out big.
Ebay started out in the garage of a rented home between 2 female family members in hopes to sell a few dresses. Apple started as an idea to build a game between 2 friends. CAT buldozers started out as 2 farmers having races to see who could plow their field the fastest. Starbucks was 1 single coffee shop for 11 yrs till they choose to market themselves. Walmart started out as a 5 n dime store.
Start to sell them and as they sell, go up the ladder and before you know it, you'll own a business. Could sell to gyms, health clubs, health stores, normal grocery, convienent, online, etc. |

You definitely could, but don't let out too much information.
You will need to patent your recipe, I'm not 100% sure of how to do this. There should be a US patent office website.
Then try selling your idea to snack company or cookbook or something like that. You could even package and sell it yourself (sell it locally or online) .

If you have a local farmers market, that is a good place to start. Make up label with ALL the ingredients, especially note ALLERGIES, this can sometimes be fatal to people with sensitivity for foods! Print up a label and weigh up a package. Find out how many bags you make from one batch, then figure out how much it cost you to make this snack. That means Include your time, ingredient cost, and how much to show it at farmers market. Hope this starts you in the right direction. |

I commend you for working on this pup chow for 10 years,shows you have patience.
Maybe research some of your ingredients for dogs. There was an article on the news a few months ago & said feeding some dogs chocolate could cause death or sickness.
