Two things to look out for.
1. Make sure the check clears with the ISSUING bank before you release the item. Often times a check will clear your bank, you'll think things are fine and then the check will come back to your bank and you'll be responsible for the funds.
2. A common scam is for them to send you a check for too much and ask you to refund the difference. Again, make sure the check clears with the ISSUING bank.
If in doubt about the validity of a check, bring it up to your bank and ask them to validate it beforehand.
Never release the item until you know for sure the funds are valid. |

Scam. They will give you a forged check for some amount over the price and ask you to send the difference by Western Union. It will take several weeks, but the forged check will bounce and you'll be out the money. There is a write up on Craig's List warning about this scam. |

Craigslist is not a scam. Often times scammers will obtain your personal email that you used when posting the ad and contact you directly to try to "steal" the item from you and pay with a bogus check or money order. DO NOT respond to the email.
Just when posting on craigslist, do not put your email address in the posting-use the craiglist style email to hide your personal email until someone responds to your ad-
