1- Positive Attitude
2- What is the goal you want to achieve (dollar wise)
3- Who do you know that you can contact for donations. Then ask them who they know...and who they know.
4- What type of event are you going to do? Is it an auction, silent auction? If it is a live auction who will MC the event?
5- Are there specific people you want to target for the auction?
6- Do you have enough volunteers to help you?
7- What is your timeline- how long until everything needs to be completed. Donations, volunteers, set-up, catering, etc.
8- How much money are you going to spend to make money for this event.
These are just some ideas. I have done several fundraisers and it just is most important remember it is a charity event and your best attitude is very important. You have to get people to rally around you and the event. Good luck. |

We found that having some 'male slaves for the day' to auction off was a huge success. We got 10 - 12 off our friends husbands to agree and on the night they went on display in their swimwear and the ladies loved it, the highest bidder won. (you might find agreeing the days with the slaves before the auction helps) |

one thing i would recommend is that u spend no more than a minute per lot otherwise boredom may set in. |

make it fun and interesting
i'd say put posters up and invite family & frends
make a big fuss about it don't let anyone tell you what to do, get others 2 help but stay in control if the others don't let you then take it away from them it's ur event do it ur way, also make sure to keep an eye out for potential trouble makers!! |

It depends on the amount of people coming but if you had around 130 people you could raise between £2000 and £30,000 ($4,000-$60,000 ... ish). At least I hold a summer ball and we usually raised £1,500 but on the addition of an auction it jumped to £3,500. I went to an auction with my husband where they had raised £30,000 but the attendees were all in the building trade and most were bosses.
We were lucky as we were offered 2 Tickets to a sold-out Oasis gig to auction as well as an autograph book, week-long stays in people's holiday homes and a days shooting (clay-pidgeon shooting ... no animals were hurt etc.).
You must also aim high and ask large regional companies to buy something to auction (theatre tickets ... night in hotel ... day in spa etc).
ALSO - YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE PEOPLE YOU INVITE ARE GENEROUS AND NOT AFRAID TO OPEN THEIR WALLET TO ENSURE A HEALTHY RETURN. (Don't be afraid to have a reserve - Also there are some companies who will provide an auctioneer and prizes in return for a cut of the total raised on auction, perhaps as high as 40%, but using their services you should be able to achieve a higher total than trying alone.)
Also you should contact the charity as their connections may well be greater and some businesses will only donate to charities. The charity could sort things out faster than you - they employ people whose sole aim it is is to secure prizes and funds for the charity ... utilise them! |

if it is in a colletion its more likely to be sold
it should be a good condition
and its ok to tell lies about its age |

My husband's workplace recently held a talent auction.
People offered things such as babysitting sessions, present wrapping, going out and doing your shopping, a personal fitness programme, a golf lesson etc etc. Time is very valuable these days and it means a lot to donate it as it is more personal than a bottle of wine etc. |

Get somebody else to do it and don't expect to make any money from it - anything achieved beyond this point is a benefit! |

Maybe not pointers here but when you are looking for items to auction off go for the ones that are unique if you can -the sorts of things that you normally can't buy (but that depends on your own budget for getting items)
Ideas I have used are tickets to a local amatuer drama production with good seats and a meal/transport and a chat to the cast after the show. Again it depends on your own area and what you can get to auction off.
Good luck with the event and I hope it goes well! |
