Start your own company. What skills do you have that you can market to others? I know several people who work from home
- One has a small specialty baking company, making custom decorated cakes, cookies and muffins for parties, corporate events, etc. She has promoted herself through ads on sites like Craigs List, handing out flyers, posting flyers on bulletin boards in grocery stores, etc.
- One is a dog walker who walks about 10 dogs/day at $15 per walk. She was dog sitting and would just start talking to people in the evenings at dog parks asking if they needed a dog walker to walk the pets through the day. Then she got new clients by word of mouth
- One is a bookkeeper who works a few days a week for several small companies who do not have the money to hire a full time bookkeeper |

There are some legitimate opportunities out there that are not scams, but it does take quite a bit of research to make sure it's a legitimate business.
A couple of pointers to keep in mind while you're searching:
1. If you have to pay money upfront just to get the information, then it's a scam.
2. If they do not offer a 100% guarantee on your startup costs, then it's a scam.
3. If they are not in good standing with the BBB, then chances are it's a scam.
My husband and I both work full time outside of the home, but we have 4 kids (all boys!) between us, so even though I thought that once they got out of diapers and started school, it would get a little cheaper. Wrong! LOL! I have a home business that I work very part time, and it helps bring in an extra check each month. I did some searching online, and while I lost about $50, I'm thankful that was all I lost because I have talked to some people who have lost literally thousands. And it's something that actually does help people and is a legitimate business that is very cheap to get started.

I work from home most of the time. I'm an accountant. Clients send me their stuff by mail, fax, and email, and I process it and send it back. Variations on this include payroll processing for small businesses (the email me their hours) and collections work (I log onto the client company's computer system to log my calls). Bookkeeping, too, can work from home in certain situations if you find the right clients.
I would caution you that in any business, marketing is the key. Whether online, by phone, or face-to-face, you've got to be able to sell your product or service. I tried to start an internet business selling products, and I didn't have the skills to market it, so it failed.
Accounting has been easy for me because (1) people need it and (2) I love to talk about it (which helps me identify and solicit clients), and (3) I distinguish myself with better communication. |

Nobody has extra time or gas to waste. You must do your homework first and then get ready to work.
Go check out home based businesses on the www.DSA.org site where you will find legitimate businesses.
Find one in your area of interest, then contact the company.
I work in the nutritional/wellness area with Shaklee and have been able to cut down my hours to part time at my " real job". With continued work, I will be able to quit my job all together and just work my home based business which is a lot more fun and rewarding.

Check out www.ryansreview.com. You'll find reviews of work-at-home opportunities, and also find out some to avoid. This is a good site to help you decide which business suits you, as there is lots of free info, and in my opinion, good advice.
Just don't be in a rush to make a lot of money. Read all you can, and take your time. Legitimate income from any program takes work and careful planning. Good luck!
