Yes, I operate a highly successful home based business. However, like anything else, it works if you work it.
Here are several keys to making your "work at home" business work.
1. Plan, organize and operate what you do as a business. This means, among other things, that you must work "on" your business as well as "in" your business.
2. Set aside and organize your administrative office at home so you can begin benefitting from the tax advantages of being a business owner.
3. License your business, adopt a business alias, and establish a seperate business checking account.
4. Search carefully and perform due diligence to develop corporate partnerships. For example, I am a fragrance consultant in partnership with LMS Fragrances. I also market the mortgage accelerator program administered by the BiWeekly Mortgage Association. Other corporate partners include GNLD, a food supplement company; Warm Spirit, a personal care products company and several other corporations. I also market and develop my own products and services, such as MPAC, HBBO Money, etc.
5. Study the home based business industry and master the "best practices" principles.
6. Build a team of support services that enhance your effectiveness and efficiency.
7. Launch your business and work it part time until you can afford to work it full time. |

You could setup a blog or website, this is completely free. Once you have added some good content, you can start to earn money from advertising. I know you wont make a huge income from this, but it would get you started working from home.
Pick a topic which you are very interested in, and write a piece on that everyday.
I've given step by step instructions on how to create a website for free, and then add adverts to it so you can start generating income.

I've been doing some work with www.elance.com the past week, all the work is home based, data entry, transcription etc. The only thing is you're competing against people from countries where the hourly rate of pay is a lot lower, so not sure if it would be worth it for you.
Also have a look at the jobs listed here, most are applicable to us,canada,europe, its quite good, thats where I found the elance link.
