Does this sound reasonable?
I am 14 (almost 15) and in grade nine. I'm starting a dog walking business.
I was wondering if this is old enough to gain trust from customers and if not how do I show that I am responsible and will care for their dogs?

Also, if you could look at my prices and give me input whether they are reasonable or not. Would you pay this much to a teen?
Also, these are Canadian prices!

Basic Walk (One Dog)
15 mins. - $5
30 mins. - $9
45 mins. - $13

Basic Walk (Two Dogs)
15 mins - $7.50
30 mins - $13.50
45 mins - $19.50

EXTRAS
Add $2.00 to any service for your dog to be brushed and come home with a nice, shiny coat.
Add $1.00 to a Basic Walk (15, 30 or 45 mins.) for your dog to have an extra 5 minutes of exercise.
Add $2.00 to your total for after-hours/before-hours service.
Add $1.50 to your total for weekend service.
Additional Details
I started my own website to advertise and will be giving flyers to local pet stores. Also, I'm posting in the paper and on bulletin boards around the neighborhood.

Your prices actually seem a touch low. I am in Los Angeles, so bear that in mind.

I would recommend a little more for the 'extras':

Add $2.00 ... for your dog to be brushed (maybe 3.00)
(instead I would offer the $10 service: brushing and "super pampering massage" and spend 15 minutes extra massaging the head, tweaking the ears, rubbing feet, whatever the dog really enjoys along those lines -- if you like dogs, this is no big chore, and some lonely dogs really need it every once in a while.)(and the dogs will love you for it, if they are always eager to see you, the owners will notice that as 'good service')

Add $1.00 to a Basic Walk ... extra 5 minutes of exercise.
(I wouldn't offer this, it makes it seem like the walk isn't much of a walk at all. I'd call it the "5-minute cardio special - a good brisk run for five minutes: combine with super-p massage and a long cool-down walk--1 hour total of exercise and pampering for 15 dollars)

Add $2.00 to your total for after-hours/before-hours service. (add 25 percent instead?)
Add $1.50 to your total for weekend service. (Would change these to: Add 25% to your total for after-hours/ /before-hours/ /weekend service.)

Make a deal with a local dog groomer for a discount rate (20-30%off) for 'your client dogs' that you bring in, then add their regular fee to your fee for taking them to the groomer.

Packages names like the "daily duty", "weekly woof" and "once-a-month deluxe" appeal to people and are suggestive of the frequency the 'expert' (you) suggests.

Market like you mean it.

Also be on the lookout for other 'dog people' -- don't think of them as competition but as potential employees.

Don't compete with dog groomers, become a sales agent by making a deal with them to bring in dogs, don't try to handle medical emergencies, but know the names, and after-hours numbers of local vets. Get to know all the dog people in your area, and use them as resources to enhance your level of service and proffessional sparkle.

Good luck and good for you, getting started early on one of your careers.

Very reasonable; you could probably charge more! You might also consider having packages, like $45 a week for 5 20 minutes walks, etc. I wish you were in my area; I would love someone to walk my little pooch while I'm at work all day :-(

Great idea! I wish you were in my area, I have two dogs that I would love for someone to come walk. I think your prices are resonable, and when people realize you are young and trying to be a little business woman, they will love that! How are you going to advertise?

This is a good idea, and good to see teens or should i say young adults to start a business. Well to gain others trust you should have like a co-signer (an adult, like your parents). And put a picture of you and an adult. That will gain my trust.

I would trust you and I think that best thing you can do is have your existing customers (if they are happy with you) tell their friends. make up some business cards with your e-mail and maybe phone number on them and give a couple to some clients tell them if they know someone that needs your services to please give them your card. This is much safer than just putting your number in a flyer and better too, because obviously these people are happy with you if they just handed me your card. GOOD luck!

I agree with everyone else you have great ideas and your prices are very reasonable, that i would have no problem paying you for it. so i recommend that you start posting some posters of your dog business. and put them in grocery stores

I think the idea of you starting your own business at a young age shows that you are responsible and ready to be taken seriously. Good luck and prices look good! Wish you lived in the states! LOL..... ( you answered my ? and I answered yours, ty!!!)

I think this is a great idea and I would in deed trust a teen with this job. The one thing to remember is to always treat your customers nice. If you get referals from someone be sure to give them a discount next time they want your services. Good luck with this business. Its a great idea!

Sounds great, what part of Canada? If it's a small town, then i think you have good pricing. If it's a bigger city, you might be able to charge more.

Do you have a family friend or good neighbor with a dog that you could try out your business on. Maybe if you offer to take care of their dog for about a month, they will write you a positive referral. Then you have something to post on your website and to add to your flyers.

I think you have a great idea, sounds well planned out. I wish you well!!!
