Dont offer to send it overseas in future. And contact ebay or paypal let them know - dont let him get away with your camcorder... Offer it to the next person that bid as a second time offer.

Be very careful - do not post the item until you are sure the money is in your paypal account. Don't accept any other method of payment! There are a lot of scams from Nigeria; they usually want you to post the item to their uncle aunt, sister or whoever in another country and then they will send the money.

(You could tell the buyer that the item is no longer for sale as it is broken or lost.)

Report the bidder as an unwelcome bidder. Under the comments section, type in Nigerian scam.

ebay knows all about them.

This guy will just scam you.

There are legitimate people in Nigeria but neither one of them has computers.

once a bidder has won an item you can request their contact details: go to your 'my ebay' then clck on advanced search, then on the left, under the members title go to 'find contact information' follow the instruction + you'll get the buyers registered details + phone number etc....check them out!

I take it that an item has been bought by a Nigerian.
He may be honest.
It may be worth telling him that many people have been conned by Nigerian buyers and you, consequently, wish to take the following steps:
Add additional "transport" costs for carrying out the following:
Ask for payment through paypal.
Tell him that his bid is not refundable.
Wait until that payment is in your bank account.
Confirm payment through paypal.
Confirm with paypal that the payment is not refundable.
Record ALL communications both on your computer and with printouts.
Once ALL have been confirmed, despatch goods.
If all of that has not produced a withdrawal from your auction, in one way or another, you are probably fairly safe.
If it all goes wrong then you definitely have a case against paypal, if no-one else.
Of course, none of this may be worth the hassle. In which case I'd just settle for the usual eBay and paypal security, and take a chance.
In future I would state that I do not accept bids from Nigeria.

Tell them you dropped the item just as you were about to wrap it up, & that it is beyond repair. ( I had to say that once)
Then offer it to the next highest bidder as a second chance offer. That will work.
If the second bidder doesn`t bother after all, wait a while & relist. Do change the wording of the listing next time.

Make sure in the future to select that you will not ship outside your area. There is that option under shipping options for that.

PayPal transfers should be almost instantaneous, but don't deal with Nigeria, the money could appear in your PayPal account, but if there are no, or insufficient funds in his account, which is pretty likely, it'll soon disappear again.

I suggest you contact eBay in the first instance, I'm sure they will have many documented cases of Nigerian Fraud, and will advise you what to do, or you could contact the buyer and tell him you cannot get customs approval to ship the item and come to a mutual agreement whereby neither of you gives, or receives negative feedback.

Hope that helps

just say you lost the item or check with ebays policies if you think the bidder is dodgy. did you state on your listing that you would post overseas? if not then you do not have to sell to them

i do not see your problem if you bought somthing of ebay and paid by paypal and did not get the goods then you have a problem.but if you sell somthing and they pay by paypal the money is put into paypal account then you have to transfer it into your bank account if you do not do this it stays in the paypal account.in other words when paypal has got the money they then notify you to say it has been paid so you have no problem

Hussydog
This time I think you may have to bite the bullet and sell to them hoping they are legitimate..

I would put a clause in your advert's in the future explaining you will not sell outside of europe without the potential buyer asking permission before bidding. this way you vet who you sell too.

Clubs and pubs have been doing this for years using the term ROAR slogan, and retail outlets have the right to refuse service to a potential customer without reason, although it is unheard of in this money grabbing global chain of terrorist retailers (no names mentioned... WALMART)

Anyway, I would look up your rights from trading standards websites and consumer advice websites. They are clued up on web-trading.

Good luck.
