Although I've not sold it, I picked up the CD single of George Michael - Father Figure (1987), which I know is rare, for £1.
I checked to see if anyone was bidding for the same on Ebay, and it went for £42.
I've certainly picked up bargains in charity shops, so I'm sure dealers make money on Ebay.
However, charity shops are getting wise to this and sometimes put the items on auction sites themselves. |

I never considered that, but what an idea! I'll give it a go, if I can find things worth selling. Think about it, you'll be helping charity folk, and also making some for myself at the same time.

i bought 14 simba beanie babys from a charity chop for twenty pence each and have sold them all for prices ranging from £2 - £6. not bad. old oop videos are good like retro 80's cartoons - trapdoor, jem and the holograms, superted etc. they sell really well. also cd's and dvd's. i make deals with the assistants and bulk buy them to sell them off one by one |

We make a profit but I'm not sure what you mean by charity shops? I usually do Garage Sales. The only problem with selling on ebay is the fees. The fees can eat up your profit if you don't price your items right and also if the item doesn't sell you still have to pay the fees. You need big ticket items to make the big bucks. |

Thrift Shops and Charity Shops have too high of prices to try to make a PROFIT buy turning them on Ebay. The only way it works is too find that unique item that everyone is looking for.
Garage Sales are even getting high.
Ebay is loosing so many sellers since there FEES have done nothing but go up. Us sellers are having a hard time making a profit. I know I have been selling full-time on Ebay for the last three years. I can no longer make a PROFIT therefore I sell only when I have something to unload. I no longer buy things to sell.
Ebay has been eatting up the Sellers profits and changing the rules for selling. They used to push starting your item at less than a dollar to draw interest. This no longer works as many items do not get the bidders and then you sell for a dollar. The new rule is you can only charge so much for S&H (how can they dictate what we charge for handling). They will pull your listing if it is too high (it is called circumventing fees) as they think we are just trying to avoid paying Ebay too much for listing the item.
I had 6 listings pulled this week. The item was listed at 99 cents and the S&H was $6.50 for an lingerie item.
I think that is riduculous and I am Mad and will stop selling as much. Let there business Hurt.
I do a ton or work and barely make about $50-100 per week (and that was when things were better) I was working full time for this, that is ridiculous.

eBay are greedy and completely uninterested in their customers, buyers or seller. They will not help you if you get ripped off. I hope they go bust. |

Just bought some speakers and an amplifier from an auction for £1 (no fees on this either as it was a charity auction) and already I have a bid on the speakers at £4.99!
If I buy from charity shops I only buy 'named' ceramics which I know will sell on Ebay. I have learned from experience over the years which items sell and which don't. Bought a weird radio-active heat therapy thing from a house clearance chop a couple of years ago for £3 and sold it to someone in the USA for £110.
If you sell on Ebay as a hobby you are allowed to earn in the region of £3600 per year without having to declare it. |

My friend's mother makes a small profit selling clothes from Charity shops on ebay, she does it as a hobby because she is retired now but she does sell things every few days.
I also have a friend who buys large tshirts from charity shops and scrap materials so that she can customise them and make them into dresses that she sells very well on ebay to the emo kids. |

don't forget by rights you should be paying tax if you are running it as a business on eBay, make sure you read their rules correctly |
