EBay: would it be better if they left out the Feedback feature?
I'm hearing more and more issues surrounding eBay and their feedback feature..people giving more than one negative feedback..eBay not caring and complaints. Should they leave it out?

Why...why not?

Absolutely not. The feedback system, flawed as it may be, is the biggest single safeguard you have when trading on ebay.

When you think about it, ebay is a strange place. You bid on an item you have not seen and that in truth you do not even know exists for that matter. If you have the winning bid, you then send your hard earned money, for this item you have not seen, halfway across the country to someone you have never heard of before. The feedback system helps reduce the odds of you being scammed.

I ebay as a hobby and currently have a feedback rating of 957 100% positive. I have never had a negative. I have sold 3 cars, over 100 laptops, 200 or more cameras, umpteen pairs of Levi's jeans. Why would someone risk sending me 400 quid for a laptop? Because they have read through all the comments from people who have bought from me before.

A couple of years back a friend was arguing with me about the feedback system being meaningless and i bet him that i could sell 4 mystery parcels on ebay at 25 quid a pop without making any guarantee's and giving no hints as to what would be in them, apart from saying that the contents had a sale value of more than 25 quid. Impossible you might think! Not so. Many people are gamblers, at least with this gamble they would get something back!
My 4 parcels sold within 3 days and i got 4 glowing feedbacks from the buyers! They had taken the risk based on my feedbacks, which at the time would have been around the 500 mark.

i think they should keep it because if people want to buy someting from a person who hasn't had good feedback like "product didn't arive" then the buyer would know that some people haven't had their product. so the buyer can be safer and they will know more...hope i helped.

Multiple feedbacks by the same person only ever count as one anyway, you could buy 20 different things from one buyer and only counts as 1 feedback. The seller is now not allowed to leave neg. feedback for the buyer now but the buyer can leave negative for the seller, because you would sell something and wait until they left feedback, if it was negative then all the seller would do is leave negative back. I think now it is more true you are not worried about leaving neg feedback.

I always look at feed back before I buy..

The Ghost
I find that most of the negative feedback left on ebay is deserved , if you trace the feedback history of the seller 9 times out of 10 they will have more than one negative for the same issue (eg: overcharging on postage)

without feedback a lot more people would be ripped off

I know that there are thousands of ebay sellers who are genuine, nice people, but there are those who are there to scam, and take the p*ss!!!If they left out feedback, i wouldn't buy. Many times ive found an item only to find they've got loads of negs for fake goods, not caring that buyer didn't receive,, excessive p&p, saying it was BNWOT when obviously not. I was stung myself when i first joined ebay, bought a "high street top BNWOT" and it absolutely stunk of sweat, and had sweat patches on the armpits, i also bought a 9ct ring that was so badly packed, and cheaply made it wasn't even a ring when i opened it, it was so squashed and the "sapphires" were god knows where. On the flip side, buyers giving a neg just for the heck of it should be looked into and the neg removed.

Feedback is important. Even if there are a few bugs...

The last time I purchased anything on EBay I found that I couldn't even leave neutral feed back.

I had purchased an item and it came 2 weeks later than promised with numerous attempts to contact the seller gone unresponded to. The item was okay but the service was poor. I wanted to tell everyone what to expect.

With EBay you have nothing to evaluate the seller by except those that came before you. Lack of feed back makes every transaction risky.

I think it was a mistake to revmove the ability to leave negative or neutral feed back. It hurts the community as a whole because they felt the needed to protect the few bad apples.

no way. feedback is a good way to see if you can trust someone when buying - especially larger amounts of money.

I think it was good when they stopped sellers from leaving negative feedback though as that does solve the issue in that sense.

But we do need it.. otherwise it's such a risk, you know?

Jus' call me L
i like the feed back feature - i think it helps distinguish scams from the real deal....i would rather trust even a 92% positive feed back than keep my fingers crossed that the item i bought will actually show up....

the issue with ebay not taking care of the doubling up on negative feedback needs to be addressed....sounds like the sellers have a serious right to be mad....

NO

I would not buy from most people on ebay if I couldnt see feedback.

David HP
I wouldn't trade if no FB

UltraMagnus
it was best when both buyers and sellers could leave honest feedback, the current neutered system is just useless
