Depends on how heavy the itme is-or they are avoiding having to pay more final value fees to ebay by jacking up the shipping. Ebay charges a fee to the seller based on the final price of the item, not the item and shipping together. |

If the item is bulky or heavy, then that explains it.
But, shipping & handling charges DO vary by the sellers.
You must find out how much s&H charges are before bidding. I have seen some jack it way, way up, more than that!
14.95 is not the worst I have seen.
I fussed one time because one pair of jeans cost 8.95 to ship, but it really did!
USPS' rates have gone up, as have UPS & FED-EX.
Gas prices cause this rate climb. |

It's possible. A friend of mine purchased something for $3 and the total came out to be $12. Most of the shipping companies have electronic shipping prices. The seller has nothing to do with it! |

A lot of people will post a low reserve or sale price on the item, with a higher shipping cost to make up for it. That way, they get more money, but the item shows up as "cheap" when you sort the listing by price. I've learned to always check both, because I bought a backpack a couple years ago for under $20, with almost $60 charged as shipping. In cases like that, it's just a pricing scam. |

Depending on how far away you live, the shipping is more, and depending on how they shipped it to you....! |

Shipping costs are complex. I work in the shipping industry, and every package that comes through the building contacts a MINIMUM of two sets of hands, usually three or four. And all of those people must be paid. And that's not counting the drivers, and their pay. And the vehicles, which must be serviced and gassed up. And the lease on the building.
There's a lot of infrastructure involved in shipping something, and there's a good possibility your seller is passing it straight onto you. I usually just round up, personally.
And if the item is $6, that might just mean it was produced in a place where the materials are nearby, the labor's cheap, and there are few expensive laws to abide by.
It costs less than 20% to make something in Vietnam, compared to what it costs in the USA, or most more modern places. Sometimes, with shipping in small quantities around the world, it can actually increase the price.
Hope that helps. |

Sellers can offer a set price (of their choice) or they can use the option where whatever it actually cost is how much they charge. Its the sellers choice |

Go to USPS.com or UPS.com, plug in the ship from and ship to zip codes, the weight and see what comes up. Shipping anything is very expensive and should not be considered a ripoff until one does a little objective investigation. |
