There are so many scammers on eBay. Play it safe and insist on payment through PayPal. |

Take the cash.
I have been selling on eBay for years and have feedback of almost 1400.
Several folks have collected items in person from me and paid cash, there is no problem with it.
It would be different if the buyer wanted to send cash in the post, unless he sent it recorded delivery and you opened the envelope as soon as it arrived to check he had sent the correct amount.
A cash payment for a collected item would suit me every time. Paypal fees soon mount up.
Happy selling

No. It's not against Ebay rules - since YOU are the Seller and THEY are the buyer - they follow YOUR rules!
Whether it's CIA, money orders, credit card payment, money order, paypal, etc...if you already had the "directions" in the body of the item listed, then you have nothing to worry about.
If ANYONE should worry it's the person who "bought" the item.
Why? Because in your Ebay description/payment you said that you 'accept Paypal as a payment' ....there you go. You said it, they agreed (by "submitting" their request) and that's it.
It's done and over with.
Again, it's YOUR item you are selling - not ebay's. If you choose to accept cash, money order, etc....then do it. But if you feel more comfortable accepting the Paypal account as payment - then stick to it.
Remember a couple things:
1) Whoever bid on your item has already read the desciption so he/she knows what they are getting themselves into.
2) It's YOUR item you are selling - sell it how you want!
Anymore questions or advice, feel free to contact me.
Good luck! |

Let them collect and pay cash it's absurd to let paypal take a cut when the buyer is collecting! |

its not against ebay rules for someone to pay cash when collecting goods.if anything it is better because you dont have to pay paypal fees.i have sold and bought goods on ebay using cash.just make sure someone else is with you when selling. there are some dodgy people around. |

i don't think it will be a problem if the item is being collected, but make sure they don't try to haggle over the price once they get there and look at the item.
the price has been agreed so there shouldn't be any problems. |

Take the cash on collection - it is not against the rules and I have done this. It will also save you having to pay the paypal fees on the transaction which are extortionate - means you will make more profit. If your fees come out of your paypal account and there is nothing in there then it will go on your credit card or bank acccount whichever one you set up in the first place. I always have my fees put on my credit card. |

Stick to pay pal and be wary all eBay users of new SCAM. The latest is for buyer to say they are paying with postal orders that you pick up from your local postal station, (they give you number of postal orders as proof of purchase) but in order to receive these you must send tracking number of parcel as proof of item being posted, after you send this tracking number they blackmail you into buying some expensive item (mobile phone) or they cancel postal orders. Luckily after my mums neighbour contacted the post office they gave her the parcel back but when she contacted police they said it was illegal to reclaim a parcel after postage as this may be construed as fraud. Be careful STICK TO PAY PAL |

Hi!
The first thing you have to check, that no-one has mentioned, is the purchaser's feedback.
If he has any negative relating to non-paying bidder, insist on paypal.
If his feedback is 100% (with at least 50 transactions) then he should be ok.
If the deal goes pear shaped, then just give him a non-paying bidder strike and offer the item to the next highest bidder.
Hope this helps! |

Ebay can deduct fees from either paypal or your bank account. You could always transfer some money from your bank into paypal if you are worried that there is nothing in your account.
It obviously makes more sense to pay cash on delivery of this particular item, so don't know why you are getting so worried about it. |

You should always take cash for collections.
It is not against the rules and if they pay by pay pal you have no proof for pay pal if they suddenly say they don't have the item off you, and they could claim the money back off pay pal.

Didn't read everyone's answers however..don't send anything until you receive payment even if cash.
Re paying ebay...the fees are billed monthly and then you have an extra 10 or so days on top of that to pay ebay fees...so don't worry about that :)
I am sure you will sell another item to pay ebay when the bill comes in.
For more help on ebay selling...check out my me page on ebay :) Hope that helps...good luck! By the way I have accepted Cash twice..once from the UK!!! I was so nervous..but he insisted..so whatever...It arrived just fine. |

Its not against the rules however it isn't advisable as Ebay will still take a cut from your bank account as they know you have sold the item if the fella confirms purchase by typing/confirming his/her price by clicking on the confirm button at checkout , make sure you have enough money to cover this, also be careful of strangers coming to your home not only could they be dodgey, e.g. a gang turns up and tries to take the item for nothing or for much less money than was originally agreed, he could also end up turning up with a cheque instead which could bounce, be very vigilant, always sell/buy items through Ebay for extra security, at the end of the day you can't trust anyone so be careful inviting people around your house to buy something, if unsure stick to paypal and hopefully another buyer will appear and pay via the payment method you orginally clearly stated, Ebay still take a cut from the overall price once the item sells weather its sold via Paypal, cheque or any of the other methods so ignore the silly individuals who are trying to make out Ebay won't get anything if you choose not to opt for Paypal, Remember checking someones feedback isn't very reliable as they often get friends in on the scam under other names to give them false positive feedback, its been in the papers about it,good luck! |

It's not against the rules, that would be fine as long as you're okay with it. As the item had to be collected anyway, I'm sure that there shouldn't be a problem! |

The ebay communication links are there so that the customers and sellers can sort out such things. When you put payment only by paypal, you were telling potential buyers. If a potential buyer can't pay by paypal, they can ask if they can pay another way, and you can decide.
I have never sold on ebay yet, so I don't pay ebay fees, but my card is verified with paypal, and it doesn't need to have any money in the paypal account, for me to pay others, paypal claim the fee direct from my bank account. As Paypal is part of Ebay, I would imagine Ebay do the same.
But don't worry about it, accept cash and you will save paypal fees for the sale, and if Ebay do not claim money direct, they will tell you how to pay, or if you sell something else via paypal, the money will probably include enough for Ebay. |

Cash can be accepted on collection, once the item has been collected mark it as payment received and dispatched. You should have logged your bank account with Ebay, so when the fees are due if there is no money in your Paypal account, Ebay will take the money from your bank account. It's fine and okay to do. If you accept cash on collection you are not paying the Paypal fees so you save yourself that money. Go for it. |

Advise the buyer to send the cash first. This way you can put it in your bank account. EBay wont take their funds until the designated time frame they set up with you when you gave them your bank account number. Would recommend switching to a credit card.
Secondly, if you don't feel comfortable with this transaction then advise the seller that it was paypal only. If the auction is closed with the buyer with cash as the winner then you will need to file a claim with ebay. This way you can relist your item and get your ebay final auction charges back. Unfortunately, you are stuck with listing fees. |
|

How many questions can there be?
|
Hi,
I often pay for things in cash on collection because transferring money to paypal from my account is a hassle. I just think of it as buying something out of my local paper. But as most people have said it's up to you. If they don't turn up to collect it then you can relist again. |

if you have specified paypal as the only accepted payment you donot have to compleate the sale and accept payment by any other method
you are not breaking ebay rules if you choose to accept cash or if you refuse the sale
regards fee payment you can pay these in the same way as you purchase items by putting the funds there from a bank account or credit card |

Lots of Complex answers for such a simple question:
If you have specified on your sale page "Paypal Only", then you have no obligation to accept Cash as an alternative. Therefore, you could send an e-mail like this:
=====
Thank you for your e-mail about alternative payment methods you would be interested in. With this item, I require payment BEFORE collection. Please remit payment by one of the indicated methods.
=====
When your buyer clicked that "Buy" or "Bid" button, they entered into a legally binding contract that they will buy your item on your conditions, and whilst you are permitted to negotiate other terms, you are not obliged to.
If you feel you would prefer the security of prepayment before collection, then do this. It is how e-bay encourage you to do it.
On the contrary, if you are willing to accept Cash on collection, then any funds required on Paypal for the fees that are not their will be collected from:
1) Your Credit Card given at time of account creation
2) Your Bank account given at time of account creation. |

I would and have, accepted cash payment on collection, there should be no problems with that. Ebay will still want their cut, but not until your payment time comes around. If you have no funds in your Paypal account it will be drawn from your bank account. |

Stick to paypal. It's done that way so that eBay can easily deduct their portion of payment since the whole funding is electronic. It's just faster and safer. You need to tell the person to get a paypal account. It's not like it's difficult to acquire (2 mins sign up).
good luck |
