wwepetlover | Ebay or yard/garage sale? |
Should i sell some of my stuff on ebay or in a yard or garage sale. I don't like the fees from ebay cause some of my stuff doesn't get sold. I don't like sitting out in the sun by myself bored as ever waiting. And sometimes i don't have the time especially during the morning/afternoon. I am usually up and home at night.
ps. i don't want any answers from people that say rude stuff. So sick of that |

Hi, i would prefer E-bay than garage sale. I'm not that friendly and i hate to stay out for couple of hours and may end up with no sale.. In E-bay, u have to put in one time effort and then you can relax and let it do the sale for u... :)
Cheers!

Get three boxes, in the first box, toss all of the stuff you just want gone, old bits and pieces that you wouldn't buy at a yard sale either. Donate this box to either the dump, or diabetes society (they take used clothes etc) or a shelter. It feels good, and the house is cleaner.
In the second box, put stuff that is in good shape, just not something you want to use any more. Save this for a holiday weekend yardsale, ask friends, family, or neighbours to take on your stuff in their sale, or bite the bullet and spend 4 lousy hours trying to sell it yourself. Donate what's left, you don't need it, they do.
The last box is only for something in excellent condition, or a collectable, but not heavy to ship. This goes on eBay. If less people would put yardsale type junk on eBay, it would be a better place to shop! Good luck! |

Do the yard sale and have some friends sit with you. Make it into a barbeque type thing. You don't have to stay home all day just do it from 8-2ish. Nobody comes after then anyway |

Its according to how much stuff you have. If you have a lot of stuff, you will get a lot of people show up for your yard sale. It is cheaper to advertise a local yard sale in the newspaper than it is to deal with a lot of ebay transactions. You just have to decide if you have more money (Ebay) or more time (Yard Sale).
If you live in an apartment complex, see if they will sponsor a yard sale. We used to have our renters put the price and Apartment number on each item. Then we noted each sale and divided all the money at the end of the day. The renters just had to drop off and pick up there stuff. We sat in the sun for them. In just one sale, we sold $3,000 work of pure junk for our residents. WE DID NOT CHARGE THEM FOR THE SERVICE.
If you do a yard sale, Post your signs the week before with the address and sale date and Day.
Then ask your neighbors to make it a street sale so more shoppers will show up.
Hope it works out for you |

The eBay fees don't come any where close to what you gain by having a much larger group of people looking at your items. If you try to sell at yard sale, you have very few prospects as to that one individual out there finding your item.
Put it on eBay and the entire nation or world, for that matter will see it.
There are some rules that you wouldn't have at a garage sale. People who come to your house can SEE if there are scratches, tears, chipped paint, etc.
On eBay, you MUST disclose all the "flaws." You don't want someone filing a complaint because, "The listing said nothing about a big hole in the back."
Also, photographs of all sides must be taken and attached to the ad. It takes a little time at first, but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to list things fairly rapidly.
One other thing: Go to www.auctiva.com. They help you sell on eBay but don't charge any thing for extra pictures, fancy backgrounds, or a bunch of other stuff that I can't think of off hand.
Oh, and BTW, some people like the "chabby chic" look and would tend to buy something that is not considered "perfect" by other picky people.
Either way, you spend time listing things with eBay or setting up and taking down your garage sale items. I prefer eBay. Any fees you will incure should be worked into the price.
It's up to you.
PS: Spell checker is not ending but not correcting either, so please excuse my typos. |

I think it depends on the item.
If it's easy to pack and ship, the eBay is a good choice. However, for larger items like tables, lamps, and tv's I think selling through a free local classifieds site makes the most sense.
Craigslist is the largest classifieds site, but your item may get lost in the mix, so if you have the time I'd post on other websites as well, including my website called Lookcube.
