This all depends on the woodchuck himself...
Is he self employed... under current tax system the woodchuck would be as profitable and efficient as possible.
Is he employeed by a small business... the woodchuck would work hard and enjoy increases as the company he worked for expanded, he would get angry that his taxes go to support the woodchucks that sit at home all day by the stream.
Is he a union member... the woodchuck would only produce what could be produced in a 2 hour time period spread over 5 hours. once per week the woodchuck would call in sick with splinters.
Is he a government worker... he would produce the same as a union worker but the wood would be over lesser quality and no one would buy it.
After Obama takes over the woodchuck will be transfered into an iron ore mill where his skills would be completely overlooked and his production value would fall to zero. |

Firewood is selling in our area for about $65 a rick.
A rick is 1/3 of a cord or about 43 cubic feet (4 feet high x 8 feet long x 16" deep) of wood made up of pieces approximately 4"x4"x16" long
So one piece of firewood costs about 23 cents.
I estimate a woodchuck, being rather small animal, could chuck (cut) at most two pieces of firewood/day. Thus producing 46 cents of retail product. Given woodchucks eat naturally available food, there is little to no cost to maintain the woodchuck, but we'll assign a resource depletion cost of 5 cents per day. Thus there is a net gain of 41 cents per woodchuck chucking wood.
In these poor economic times, investing in woodchucks could be a wise investment. |
