I live in Sydney Australia 400 metres from Dee Why beach and the business that get a lot of trade besides restaurants, are the 40 flavors ice cream shop, swim wear shop, bicycle and the surfboard shop.
I noticed one of your earlier questions and you said it was Venice Beach you want to start a business. I know Venice Beach I have been there a few times on holidays and it is a really good beach with and fantastic atmosphere.
If it was me wanting to open up a business I would open up a shop that doesn't nesserally sell things but hires things out.
For example surfboards, roller blades, bicycles and the most important thing lockers. What has happened here and I'm sure it's happened in Venice Beach is people have had there personal things stolen and even had there car stolen. Because criminals on the look to see were they put there stuff down and go and get the car keys when they have a swim.
People have actually said they would have payed to use a locker if it was there to rent. Hope these ideas gives you something to work with.

Make painted postcards for people to mail to their friends. Get some heavy-duty cardboard, cut them into postcard size, and paint an abstract image with say, watercolor paints. Put a postcard stamp on it, and sell them to people for $1 each. |

Gift Shop or Marine Supply Shop. Rent items like Umbrella's, Lawn Chairs, Towels.
Make sure you sell Tanning oil's and Sunblock, sunglasses, flip flops, Swim Wear, Life Jackets, Kid's water toys. Your getting the picture. Go for it. My shop is on the river. And all those items are my best sellers. Good Luck. |

You don't say where your beach is but I'm thinking it may not be important. I live on the east coast and there are stands on the boardwalk that pretty much meet the entertainment/ice cream needs. One thing I can recommend is to cater to those who get all the way down to the beach and forget the essentials. I think if you offer lotions/sunscreens, flip flops, towels & bottles of water that would be good. But how about things like diapers & wipes, water diapers & individual servings of formula for people with babies who would rather pay you than running back to their hotel rooms??? |
