Does anyone run a computer based home business or know someone that does?If so,tell me what is required,how much you make,ect.I'm trying to find out which ones are legitamate.

Finding a good home based business that will actually make you money is difficult. I wrote a blog on advice for working from home and invite you to read it. You can find a link in the 2nd paragraph of my profile here on answers. Also is a document called "The MLM Legality Test". That should be a MUST read.

Neither is a commercial for anything I do and the advice is just stuff I learned from the school of hard knocks.

Always do your research when making a decision of this nature. Many don't and then wonder why it's not working...then they do the research and find out it didn't work for many others...

I have worked in the network marketing industry for five years. You CAN make money working in MLM--however, it's not effortless, nor is it "get rich quick." Anyone that tells you it is, honestly isn't being honest.

Before getting into MLM I thought it was all a bunch of slime. I heard 1 too many stories about scams (just like everyone else). I never, ever thought I would become part of this industry, but when my life changed, I had to find something untraditional that would work for me and MLM presented itself.

Here's what I can tell you. You can and will make money if you start with a legitimate company and work it like a job. That means "going to work" every day just as you would any traditional job. If you are consistent, passionate, willing to learn, you can make this work. I am living proof. I average a little more than $2,000 a month in income and that has made it possible for me to stay home with my three children for the past five years. I work about 15 hours a week and I work around my family life--meaning that I put my hours in whenever I want to. However, I always put the time in. And when I work, I really work--meaning the tv is off, my office door is closed and I am FOCUSED on results. I have a "to-do" list and I engage in money-making activities only during my work hours (for example...I make money when I make sales so if I'm selling, I'm 'working.' If I'm filing paperwork, I'm not making money, therefore I don't count that as 'work time.') I am quite certain that I could make far more than $2,000 a month if I worked more, but I don't want to. My hours work perfectly for my family. I average about $35 an hour. Once you consider all of the tax advantages of being an independent consultant, this soars much higher (for example, I write off part of my mortgage, part of my car, my computer, my internet service, my cell, etc)

The reason most people don't make money in this industry is because they don't follow thru. They expect money and customers to fall in their lap overnight and that's just not how it works. You have to be willing to put time in and you have to be willing to stretch yourself. If you are, then by all means, you can and will be successful!

The DSA (Direct Selling Association) is the industry standard for evaluating businesses in this industry. They have a code of ethics that companies must adhere to in order be members. The ethics are high--they prevent companies from requiring people to buy a bunch of inventory, charge ridiculous start up fees, etc. Look at the website and you'll see hundreds of legit companies that offer opportunities like what you're after.
