All the time. I would not go so far as every day, but several a week would not stretch the point.
My favorite is from a few years back. I was fresh out of HS, working at a national Taco chain. A customer comes up, yelling about not having any sour cream on his taco. He had taken only one small bite from the end, and demanded that I give him more.
I calmly replied, "Sir, if I can prove to you that there is sour cream on the taco, will that satisfy you?" He said yes. I squashed his taco right there on the counter, and sour cream squirted out both ends.
I pointed to the sour cream, said, "There is the sour cream." And I walked away. Surprisingly, my boss didn't fire me, but I did have to remake the dahm taco. |

People suck!! I have a hard time taking their crap so I once got suspended from a job I had. I was a waitress and this girl was being a total B!$@%
so I ended up asking her what her problem was and asked her to go outside with me, I guess that was not the best thing to do, she got her meal free and I got suspended for a week. But I didn't learn anything!! I still don't take crap |

Don't let him get to you. That is exactly what he wants. Be polite, smile, use just a pinch of sarcasm in your tone. (This is the best way to piss him off) But don't give him special treatment. If you scream back or show your anger, you are only letting him win. And yes, he does think it's a game. |

I worked in the restaurant business for 12 years and know exactly what you're talking about! I believe everyone should work in customer service for 1 week to see how it feels to be "pushed around" by people who think they're better then you. Usually after waiting on someone rude, I would go to the back of the restaurant in the cooler, scream, kick, throw, literally have a nervous breakdown until I felt better. Not that I have ever done it, but what people don't understand is when being waited on, the server is the last one to see your food before it's delivered to you and we could do anything to it that we want (AGAIN, I'VE NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THAT), but just having that smirk on my face like I did do something is enough! Another thing people don't understand, the nicer you are to others, could get you incentives down the road, ex: discounts, free meals, movie tickets. One thing for these people to remember is you don't know who I am, who I know, or who I'm related to. I could be the Pope's distance relative or your next employers wife...so be careful how you treat others!
I don't think I did get in trouble for not providing what the customer wanted because as soon as I would see a problem customer I would forewarn my manager. That way she knew I didn't "egg them" on!
Good Luck and remember, are they really worth it? |

Well - we all have encountered people like that. But - if you treat others the way you would want to be treated and just tell them you are trying to help them, they may be more patient. There are going to always be people whom you can't please, so don't worry about it. As long as you do the best you can, and you know that, you'll be fine......Good Luck |

Everyone, including you, wants to get the best at the lowest price. I have never met a customer who wanted anything other than that.
I see companies every day that want people to take "either-or", and who cannot imagine doing both. The best companies do exactly that, two that come to mind are Wal-Mart and Clothing4All.
As to working with rude people, many of them are happiest when you respond in kind. They get an emotional payday when the recipient of their anger gives it right back.
The best way to treat such people is with understanding and kindness, as long as they are not being physical. When you can get a word in between the rude person's rants, give a complete reply to the customer in a positive tone of voice.
I have found that what passes for "rude" may be caused by cultural differences or because of a personal tragedy that has upset them. |

It is all about the value of time. I am not sure if you are allowed to refuse service in your line of work, but I am always telling customers that they can't always get what they want as cheap they want it for (I word it nicer than that).
Sometimes you just have to say "Sorry, but I can't get you what you want."
I really believe that dealing with customers is what makes me drink. |

Yes, I've dealt with really rude customers. Usually respond with a smile (killing them with kindness?) and most of the time I've had to say "I'm sorry but this is the best I can do". They usually realize they can take it or leave it. I usually remind myself, "they're having a bad day.." A lot of times it's just someone's having a bad day, someone else ticked them off..don't let it get to you. There's someone somewhere every day every hour, every minute getting a rude customer to deal with. You just have to take it with a grain of salt.
Next time you get that guy that cannot handle a 10 min wait... apologize and tell him he's welcomed to speak with your manager. She/He will put him in his place. You do the best YOU can do. It's all anyone asks for.. But don't be rude back or sarcastic because that only escalates the problem.
Good luck |

Smile, ignore them, dont give them an audience (dont anwer back), it was only ten minutes, deal with it. That's why they call it customer service. Put yourself in his shoes. |

I worked in a restaurant for 15 years. and yes I did run across the rudest people ever.. There were several repeats that would complain about everything from service to the food even though everything was perfect. (Manager cooked the food and I of course waited on them) they got their food for free every freeking time. Pissed me off and would refuse to wait on them again. I figured that I couldnt please them why bother waiting on them. And no I did not get in trouble because I let the boss know ahead of time. |

They say the customer is the king, so some take it to the extreme. I work in a fast food and i tend to let them know that they have the choice of taking their customs elsewhere. |
