Having to look under 30 to buy booze..?
I'm 32, and still get trouble sometimes getting served for booze. But here in Wales a shop wants to ID anyone who looks under 30! Now thats taking the pizz! Its not flattering to be asked; its a plain nuisance..
Its hardly curbing under age drinking to badger your potential customers. I think you can tell from teenagers appearances how old they are - and if they're hitting 30.
How would you feel? Flattered? Insulted?Harrassed?
At my age I would feel flattered..
However you do raise a valid point...
Our local Co-Op have brought in a policy of not serving cigs to anyone under 21...This despite all the staff knowing all the regular buyers are of age....The same is now being brought in for alcohol....Its stupid and offensive to people...

I got asked for ID for buying cigarettes a few weeks ago. I'm 29. It made my bloody day. It's not just Wales. I was in south London.
But yes, I've seen signs saying if you look under 30, you might be asked for ID. The crackdown on shops selling alcohol and cigs to minors has meant they are so paranoid, they eventually won't serve you unless you can recall the Blitz.

I am 30 and it happens to me. Everyone tells me i should be flattered but after legally being able to buy booze for 12 years it does wear a bit thin and now just gets on my nerves!
I get asked for iID alot .. at 39 !! .. i just assume they're doing their job.
I think its a good decision,, if you think logically, not many people 30+ would buy alcohol for minors

Only in Wales..........

Good question.....I am 33 and got asked one time for my ID and I felt insulted because normally I never get asked.

all alcohol should be banned it is only for the week minded. and courses more damage to your body then smoking does

as a former licensee and someone who looks young
(25 but always asked for id) i can see both sides-fact is, if they're unsure it is far less hassle to refuse service than face fines, court and potential loss of business. the government are taking the issue v seriously and clamping down on vendors so they have to be sure......i don't see how it isn't flattering though or what the big deal is if you carry id anyway?

Look at it this way.
You are not obliged to show them any ID. Just as they are not obliged to serve you with alcohol.
