I know I want to start this business, but I have absolutely no money. I was thinking of just starting with my name, and not yet registrating with the county until I had made some money to cover the cost of the name and taxes and insurance. I should be "legal" within three to six months. Is this okay to do or will I be reprimanded? Will I have to pay back taxes for the company? It is a consultation/service company dealing in Real Estate. |

As long as you are not selling a home or property you will be okay. You can file your taxes for the 2006 year by April 15, 2007. The name is not an issue, just keeping accurate records for your taxes is what counts. |

I wouldn't risk it since you'll likely be involved w/ legal docs.
If you were doing nails or hair weaves, it might not matter. But, you and your business will be doing lots of stuff that must be done just right, will pass in front of municiple/county/state government, and hundreds of thousands of dollars will be at stake.
It's critical to do it right. You don't want to be liable for something like that. |

it is illegal, but possible,, my husband and i have been running a construction business, under the table for 6 months now.. we will make it legal in time, but it takes money, and my husband to get a green card. the best way to start is make business cards, flyer and distrubute them around the area.. it works, but takes time. i handed out over 5000 flyers and got 2 responses.. good luck..also u won't have to pay back taxes if you don't file anything.. |

I'm not telling you to do it, but there are plenty doing it. A liscense is not that expensive. I'm not sure what type of taxes you would have to pay in your area. Call your local Chamber and talk to them. They can point you in the right direction or even tell you the answer to how much it will cost. My husband got a liscence in our are for $25. No taxes or cost to register the name. Not much to avoid the possiblities. What is going to cost you is the Advertising. |

Technically you will have to register with the county first, but a lot of people do not. If you start a company that does not bare your name, such as Oakland Advising, you really do need to file a fictitious business licence and advertise in a paper. You could go to any of the local papers or the one that specializes in anouncements. I recommend going through them because it it usually cheaper. The thing that I would be more concerned with is the professional liabilty insurance. In your profession, do you need to get it or is it just recommended? If it is recommended, may need to limit the people you advise until you can afford it. You don't want to get sued for something and not have all the proper documentation, that would not be fun.
