mummylove | Help with wording for an advert please? |
I am hoping to start a new service in my area.
I want to let peoples dogs who are left home alone out for a pee and a poo.
I have an enhanced police check and references.
I just cannot come up with the right words to describe the service I want to offer without it sounding strange.
I have done my research and there is no one else in the area who offers this service.
I would also feedcats if the owners were away.
I already have several people who want to take advantage of it.
I need to get the Ad in by Wednesday so it is in the local paper next weekend.
I would clear up after the dog, feed it and refresh its water if required..
Any suggestions for wording of the Ad and Name of my new business would be really gratefully received also what insurance would I need to take out?
Thanks you for your help. |

Before starting such a business I would take out insurance. For example: It is possible for a dog to escape from the house and get run over - you could be sued by the owners! I know it seems rather an extreme example, but it could happen.
Contact the Citizens Advice Bueau :http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/macnn/index for free advice.
You could also contact Business Link: http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/home?domain=www.businesslink.gov.uk&target=http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/
for practical small business advice.
If you have several people who want to take advantage of your service, it might be best (initially at least) to allow "word of mouth" from satisfied customers to be your best advertisement. |

My uncle offers a similar service, but he actually stays in the home-owners house while the owners are on holiday. He looks after the pets including walking dogs, waters the plants and because he is living there the owners think of it as a good security measure against burglars. He started by sitting houses for friends at his local church and then just word of mouth and good references.
Perhaps you could put a free ad up at your library/workplace etc to get things going.

A possible business name: "Pet Care 4 U"
Possible ad would read as follows....,
-----------------------------------
"Your pet dogs are precious to you and they are to us as well. With my (our) service, we (I) will come to your home, feed, water and walk your pet while you are at work or on vacation using the food you provide in order to maintain your pet's diet. Can provide quality references.
Call for rates and more information." [place your phone number here]
--------------------------------
I would also have an agreement form drawn up. And I would shy away from handling any pets that require life saving medicines, unless you are bonded and prepared to take on that kind or responsibility. You may want to get insurance anyway in case a pet for some unrelated / unknown reason dies on you. |

Call your service "Petcare" - when advertised on a flyer, you put the name "Petcare" in the middle of the flyer, or advert, with pictures of all the animals you look after surrounding the word. Petcare covers both cats & dogs, or a wider variety of animals, so if you ever want to branch out, your name covers all pets. Good luck!!! |

Maybe "Pet Patrol" for the name of your business. As to the wording of your ad, just something simple like:
For the best in pet attention, call the Pet Patrol into action. We will feed and water your animals and walk your dog when you aren't available. Call the Pet Patrol at XXX-XXX-XXXX. References provided.
Sorry, I don't know about the insurance. You might check with your city hall and see if there are any business license etc required to provide this service. Good luck. This sounds like a "wild" business. :) |

For your business name to sound strange might not be a bad idea since what you are offering is rather unique and kind of strange to begin with. Ultimately your ad should list your services and contact info. As for possible names ... uh ... Pet Refresh, Pet Relief, Pet Freedom, Animal Antics, Doggie Daycare ... Depending upon your market I would suggest you also market your service as an alternative to a Kennel for traveling clientele (Kennels can get really expensive). |
