Many People feel bad here if they are advised to seek professional paid help for business matters - like in your case now. Beyond a certain limit, business issues need to be examined professionally and case specific and require able hands and minds to do the job. Free, Casual and piecemeal guidance could be very harmful.

Get the company valuated by a professional. If you can get your hands on the financial you can try and get an idea yourself [by just Google business valuation that will give you references and how to]. It will not be accurate, but some idea. Talk to the present owner. Buy just the name and take everything else over. Get legal people involved in the contracts! |

So what your saying is " I can Run this business better." Do not let your arrogance blind you, bring some professional help, accountants, lawyers and the such. Spend the money up front to find out the real situation. What the boss tells you and what's really going on in the books is two totally different things. A few thousand now is better than spending a few years grinding away at 100 plus hours a week to find out it wasn't worth it.( plus all the money you may lose) |

If you are really comfortabe with that business, consider the option of starting on your own, contact all the clients as and when your current boss is selling out. I will take your word that all the employees are good assets; but it would be much cheaper to offer them fresh jobs in your company than to inherit them with the old company. I like your enthusiasm, but don't run with just one idea; think of alternatives. Do a cost-benefit analysis on 'buying vs starting new'. |
