Honest opinions about selling Mary Kay??
I am thinking about becoming a Mary Kay rep, and I love meetng people and doing makeup and such...but I have heard both good and bad. What is your honest opinion..plus it would just be a PT thing so I can have a little spending money. I'm going to some meeting with my consultant tonight, so I was just wondering what everyone thinks...thanks!

I’m looking for constructive criticism, so if I do sell…I want to know what people like, and what they don’t like…I will be honest up front that I work for Mary Kay…have you had any good experiences or bad ones? Let me know! I’m all ears.

I am a Mary Kay Sales Director and wouldn't do anything else. I am typically very shy and have never been the "pushy" type and was able to earn two free cars and become a Director working that way. I agree with the previous post...make sure you like your consultant and are willing to work very closely with her as your recruiter. Ask questions BEFORE you sign...this will make your experience a postive one. Ask their thought on inventory, activity level, communication throughout your career (do they contact you on a regular basis or is the ball in your court). The reason I say this is because there are several Directors out there that expect you to start with a large inventory (which is fine if you feel comfortable with that) and will only help you if you are doing a certain amount of activity. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of us out there that do not treat our consultants this way BUT as a brand new recruit you have no idea. I am always open for questions....I've been a consultant for seven years and a Director for 4 of those years. I've worked my business, while working a full time job, while going to school and now as a stay at home mom. I love it and if you have the right people to get you started it's an AWESOME company to work for.

Hey Emily,

First are you working with a consultant... THAT is my first advice. AND 2nd piece of info is to find one that you feel 100% comfortable with, meaning CAN YOU CALL HER your friend. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my director and I am having a blast doing what I am doing.

I researched this company and kept my ears open to all the good and I HEARD ALL THE BAD. What I did find (my research) was that the people that failed and trashed talk where the people that just joined and then sat around waiting for the results.

I was then pretty sure that I wanted to do this and then the product really sold me in. IT just changed my skin. TO WHOMEVER said that people do not pay for the products, People do pay. I am telling you this and I have nothing to gain. This past weekend my husband and I celebrated our 3 year anniversay and I paid for our full vacation with my MK money.

I come from a forensic accounting and psychology background so I am not some dummy that had nothing better to do. My recruiter and director also both came from professional backgrounds.

You can sign me up for one of the girls having a blast. I do believe in the company, I believe in the message and I do believe that this will assist me in staying home when I have babies.

If you do need any help or you want to contact me further then send me an email or check out my 360 page, I have tons of reviews and info there.

HUGS

My mom is a Mark Kay rep. It is NOT a pyramid scheme. You just buy the products you want at cost and you profit from what you sell. You can buy a lot to keep in stock once oyou get regular customers and know what they like so they get their stuff fast or you can order for each customer, however the latter is less profitable when you pay shipping each time. It's a great way to make some extra cash. I thought about doing it but I'm just really not a people person. I couldn't walk up to some stranger and ask to do a demo for them. Not for me. But for those that are comfortrable, go for it!

A little advice though, once I was shopping and a lady came up to me and said "Wow, you have such a beautiful face and skin. I am a makeup artist and I'm working on my portfolio and would love for you to be in it." She then handed me her Mary Kay business card. I was a little annoyed knowing that she probably feeds that line to everyone. So, my advice it to be sincere and tell people up front that it is Mary Kay.

I see some incorrect information here so I will let your consultant go over the facts with you rather then waste time disputing them. My personal experience is that Mary Kay is not what i expected. It is true when they say the product sells its self yes you have to do some work people don't come knocking on your door however I have had people find me through my website and the 800 number. It is a good product and if you use it and believe in it then what is so different about telling people about a good cleaning product or a great restaurant? I found the company to be of high integrity and stand behind the product it is the first company i ever worked with that stood behind the golden rule how many people say it and really do it. Mary Kay does. In making a decision remember it is a business so there are business expenses you need to decide how much you want to invest in your business and do not let anyone pressure you in making more of a commitment then you are comfortable in making. I would be happy to answer annoyed questions sometimes it's easier to talk to someone who is not your recruiter I felt that way just sceptical and unsure I am glad I decided to give it a try. Good Luck!

The worst about selling Mary Kay or Avon (which are network marketing operations) is that anybody and everybody can join and be an associate and get the special discounted purchase price on the make-up. You can find customer today who can buy from you, but there is no stopping her from also joining Mary Kay tomorrow and get their make-up directly from Mary Kay cheaper than from you. There are more sales representatives out there than real customers.

Before deciding joining a sales operation, check if there is terriority protection, any special authorization to sell, and check if they sell directly on their Website. If there is no territory protection, no special authoriziation to sell that everybody can just join and sell, and then if they can sell directly on their website, you will not make any money selling Mary Kay, you will end up having to use their products most of the time. Like Avon, they have a website directly selling to customers and I buy from their website because they email me great discounted coupons every week! (I had never bought anything from my friend who is an Avon rep because I got it cheaper , faster, and more convenient from Avon's website than from her....she never made any money out of Avon but she became more like a customer who buys and uses their products....)

I personally think you will make a better part-time income if you to get a real part time job at a beauty salon, department stores, or beauty shop, etc.

It will cost you $400 dollars to intially get started, this is the price of the website, paypal, starter kit, and your first product order. I can break it down for you if you email me. Also your director will try to pressure you into purchasing more product to start with a full store. This product may not sell. There are a lot of little things they do not tell you right away. You must order a minimum of $200 dollars worth of product in order to receive the product at wholesale. If you do not do this every three months you will be considered inactive and will be paying the retail price as a consultant. It is your choice but ask yourself if you are a good sales person? Can you afford to invest a minimum $400 into the business right now and risk the return? It is hard work and a lot of women feel that MK is overpriced. Also you may start to see people dive under the desk when they see you coming because they don't want to buy anything. Take your time and think about it. Choose wisely it is your valuable time and money that is important. Good luck!

My honest opinion is that the products are entirely way too expensive! Unless you live in a place where most everyone is willing to pay for it, I would say try something else.

Work in a departmentment store doing make up. Mary K smells like a pyramid scheme. They've tried to rope me into that before, get out while you still can.

I'd say go for it but do not do it unless you have your own website, so you can plug your products to people who are REALLY interested in cosmetics, don't plug friends and family!

You can check out my website for further ideas and be sure to check the webhost that used for my website, no scam! No sleazy salespitches too!

Good luck!

Just like Avon. You will have to make requirements before you get a check from them. Never deliver, it is a waste of time and money. I found out about what kinds of toxins were in them and I haven't worn make up since.
