I have to honestly admit that it's so embarrassing to have an overdue bill. Sometimes with the collector's understanding attitude it makes a client realize that all collector's aren't rude, just as some of the customers can be rude too. As long as the two sides can be civil most people would want to get the monies straightened out. |

Before you do anything you should check the collection laws of your state. There are usually very strick laws concerning collections, like you have to send them a first letter and give them so long to pay and so forth. |

I've been a manager in charge of collections (in California). are you collecting on negotiables or property items?
laws vary by state; check your state's laws, contact your district attorney. generally, though, you have to have a certain number of verified contacts before you can take them to court, so send a certified letter... make SURE that the post office postmarks the receipt. this is your proof. california law doesn't require that they receive the letter, so they don't have to sign for it, you just have to have proof that you mailed it. also, call them, and create a call log "left message on 7/18, 12:14 pm", etc. |
