Some banks extend what they call "small business lines of credit" often through credit cards. Those are easier to get and can be based on your credit history alone. They typically are up to $100,000.

Robin, you have a feminine avatar, so I'm assuming you are a woman. Much to the chagrin of some of the gentlemen who want to do the same thing, most states have associations specifically made up of and for women Entrepreneurs who've made it are an excellent source of information and support. As already state, there is a lot you need to very carefully evaluate before signing on the dotted line for any small business loan. Another excellent source of info for you would be the mentors available through retired persons groups, people who had lifelong careers in business. Do lots of internet searches and have a written idea of questions that you need and want answers about. Keep track of what you are thinking (goals are only a place to start and work backward from on your list). The success rate for self-started, small businesses is not encouraging and you need to understand why that's true before you commit your financial future and your 24/7 life to that enterprise. Best wishes in your search and set-up.

Is the 30k just the final part of the 200k you need to start? Or are you going in the hole for 30k on day one? Banks will take a very dim view of lending to someone with zero assets, regardless of how good your idea is (read: they will NOT lend to you)
Do you really need 30k to start? Could you start with a much smaller plan/vision and then build from there? Have you budgeted in the carrying cost of the 30k? How long would it take you to pay it back? Many aspiring entrepreneurs who want to borrow money haven't thought through all the implications of doing so. Think them through! You'll be surprised how creative you can get when the money is NOT available. |
