The website is a great start. I have a friend that did this. She just started posting her photos on her website in a tasteful manner. She also found a niche. She photographs pregnant women. So, she advertises in mommy magazines, daycare centers, etc. You don't have to cold call...just post and advertise and let the smilin' subjects come to you. Don't be scared...it's scarier to go through life not trying. You have nothing to lose! Have fun. |

Ask yourself what is the worst thing that can happen. Are you really happy with what you are doing now? I have a feeling that you are more scared of rejection .... The No Word. Look at it this way ...You will get plenty of No's, but Business is all nothing more than a Numbers game. Lets say you have 100 people that you will see this year and out of that 100 you get 25 good paying jobs out of it. You had to hear 75 No's. So look at it as for every no that you get that just puts you that much closer to the yes's.
How is the situation that you are in now? I live by a motto that goes something like this: If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always gotten.
Just Do It !!!!! Also I have looked at some of the answers that others have posted about cutting your price. That only works on a short run, Sell value. Give the extra at the end, and never, never give your services away for free. Good Luck !

I remember how i first started my business,
i think the first thing to do is start slowly to build confidence, and make sure you have all the infomation on hand, and first ask friends and family to come to you. It will also show them that you know your job and they can recommend you to there friends and family.

Starting your own business is stressful in the extreme because you have so much of yourself invested in it that it's rather like asking people to approve of YOU.
Keep reminding yourself that people buy for a wide variety of reasons, such as price when compared to comparable products, ease of finding your place of business, instant attraction to your product, etc. Whether or not they like you ranks very low on the list.
I recommend you concentrate on the details of the business and do your best to convince yourself that whether customers are going to approve or disapprove of you is virtually irrelevant. |

good question ,. i am a sales man and have been doing direct sales all my working life witch is about 20 years , so take the plunge , too make it work for you the first thing you have to do is to fully commite to your shop, quit the job , do some direct marketing . flyers throught doors . hand them out in your town /
local schools , always money there , under cut other shops , for a short time , word of mouth is really the best way . have a happy customers book , get them to comment on the work you have done for them . good luk , but you do need to fully commite , it's the only real way 100% ......... |

Business and rejection go hand in hand You can not be afraid of networking or selling yourself (product) Just always keep your eye on the ring You must always believe in yourself Networking is a big key to what you are You will need to go to Bridal Shops to see if you can leave cards in there shop You will need to be able to convince a prospective client your the right person for the job and if you show no faith and confidence in your self that will show thrue during these meetings Remember you want this to work,even if your scared you need to fake it,after a few meetings under your belt you fears will move to the side YOU CAN DO IT from one who has started my own cleaning service just over a year ago I too had the same mixed emotions you do now you will be fine |

Obviously you are talented. Believe in yourself and keep your focus on your goals. Be clear on what it is you want to attain by going into business. Don't make the business the goal....make it more personal and have an emotional attachment to that goal and you will become unstoppable. You have to BE the photographer you are in order to DO the activity (business) to HAVE the results you desire (money, time/freedom, etc.). You won't get off the ground if you do the reverse, which is what you are doing now: waiting until you HAVE the courage to DO the activity (talking to people) in order to BE the best and most highly sought-after photographer you can possibly be. If you treat it as BE/DO/HAVE the confidence will flow. Just go for it! Best wishes! |

Do friends and relatives' weddings as a favour and just ask for enough money to cover expenses. This will increase your confidence and be free advertizing. Most wedding photographers are chosen by personal recommendation. The slower you go the more confidence you will gain as you will not be rushed, and can make mistakes and get experience before ditching the day job.
If people like your work YOU WILL GET HIRED, even if it just takes a little time for the word to spread. Be patient and believe in yourself. |
