If you are an outgoing person you may have luck selling books door-to-door. A buddy of mine used to do this as well as many of his college friends and made a decent living.
If you are not the type of person who can put up with an occasional nasty hosts than this could be a stressful job. I've never personally done it but I would imagine it would be a little hard from the beginning to having to knock on other peoples doors.
If you decide to do this, you may be more successful by specializing in children's books for instance. Many parents (including myself) may spend money easier for their kids rather then for themselves.
As I mentioned above, I have not done this work so you should do your research as to avoid any scams, get to know any dangers, hazards, as well as local and state laws associated with this type of work.
Oh, you may need a small, fuel efficient car to carry your selection. Doesn't have to be a nice looking one, in fact if you are a student and arrive in a slightly beat-up car you may get a few pity-sales ;)
There are lot of jobs out there one can do but thought this lesser known one may be of interest with relatively less competition. Provided you sell the books for a company, you may be treated as a contractor which may have tax benefits (you may be able to deduct car/fuel expenses).
Also, you need to find a reputable publisher or bookseller to sell books for. I'm sure if you Google/Yahoo for relevant keyphrases, you may find some. Here is one to get you started:
