How could I get a safety deposit box?
I'm sitting watching 'The Da Vinci Code' and was just wondering how I would go about getting a safety deposit box? Can't be as simply as heading down to the local branch of my bank.
I'd rather get one at gringotts in the HP films. So much more fun than your usual high street ones.

Yes, your bank allows you to rent them. They come in different sizes and you usually have to put down a deposit for the keys.

They are simple to get. If the bank has them they would be delighted to take your money for a rental. Usually they just have little ones left so you can get that and they will notify you when a bigger (and more expensive one) is available. If you are a regular customer at the bank they even give a discount on the annual fee.

If your bank has a fairly big local branch then yes, it usually is.
Don't expect to walk in a special purpose room with your key mind you...very few are as glamorous as what you see in the movies. In fact, you usually provide your own box and the bank simply charges a fee for keeping it in their secure room.

Yes it is, go see your bank. I believe private companies, also have them

You are exactly right. You go to the bank and rent a box. In effect, what you are doing is renting the security of the bank.

It really is as simple as that. They will assist you with the necessary forms and of course there is a cost.
