How do I find a trucker company that hires 18year olds and allows weekends?
"Although trucking is a physically demanding profession and isn't right for everyone, you can usually find a trucking company and job that fits your needs and desires. Most truckers are away from home frequently, up to four weeks at a time, but some companies have guaranteed home time, and even offer flexible schedules so you can plan exactly when you want to be home. There are also jobs that allow you to be home every weekend. If you can't stand to be away, you can get a local job and be home every night, with no long hauls."

That depends on which states you live in/will drive in. Some areas require minimum age of 24, others 21...

With all due respect, your question illustrates a problem with your generation......Many people your age want all the benefits without putting in the time to learn a profession. I suggest you take any truck driving job you can find, put up with the personal sacrifices for a few years and then maybe be more selective in what you are looking for. You have to pay your dues before you are in a position to dictate terms like you want to do.

There are truckers with years of experience seeking what you want. Given the choice of them, with experience, and you, with very little, who would you hire if you were the employer?

My husband, father and brother all drive truck and I have researched this career choice extensively.

I do not know of any OTR companies that hire anyone less than 22-23 yrs old. My suggestion is to find a local delivery company, keep a good driving record and when you are 23 go out and get an OTR job. It is also helpful to go to an actual truck driving course.

age shouldn't be a factor as long as you have the proper license, typcially a class A CDL is needed. It is actually illegal for an potential employer to ask your age in an interview or on an application, they can ask if you are over 18, but not what your exact age is.

If you want to be home everynight and have weekends off, look for local companys that do distribution. For example there is a nearby company in my area that does food distribution. The drivers work weekdays, driving the food supplies from the warehouse to the restaruants all over the local region, but they are home every night.

Edit: if there is a minimum age for a job (by law) the employer can ask if you are over that age, sorry, I assumed it was 18 for truck drivers but it could be higher in certain areas.

I work for a "demand response" municiple truck corporation that hires drivers with a good driving record. We are not a fixed route but run on appointments. We only operate from 7am to 6pm M-F. We are closed on paid holidays. We would hire an 18 with an excellent safety record and no criminal record for drug/alcohol issues. Expect random drug/alcohol tests and frequent driver training courses for emergency procedures, patient assistance, etc.

look online. There are many jobs out there that get you home on the weekends. Try willis shaw based out of boise Idaho, core carriers, based out of kansas city, kansas, swift, mcclane is a company that delivers to local gas stations, grocery store's Etc. It just takes time and effort to find the right one. Go to truck stops and talk to the drivers.
