How do I get 300,000 dollars for a restaurant start up when I have nothing to put down?
I would like to start a restaurant and have nearly 30 years experience. I will need $300,000 to start up and maintain operations for the first few years. I don't have anything saved, I don't have very good credit (it's getting better) but I have a wealth of experience and a good business plan. How do I do it?

that good your credit is getting better. now you just have the wealth of experience. You have to find out the loss making restaurant ask the owner to give you to run the restaurant on your experience basis make good profit and take a share from him

as the market condition are not favorable for the credit no one will lend you any money ***

Lenders will require 10% down. You'll need a written business plan. If you don't have $30,000 to put down then you in all probability will not get the loan.

Your other options are to
1) ask family and friends for the money and possibly give them a share of the business.
2) Open a smaller restaurant
3) Cater for awhile to make money instead of opening a restaurant.
4) Get a loan from a Venture Capital company. The don't require anything down, but you must be very convincing. You're think big so that is a plus with Venture Capitalist and you have a lot of experience so that is another plus.

You cannot, not even with SBA as these business loan providers demand collateral, equity investment -- aside from businss plan or experience. Plus you don't have very good credit

Starting a huge venture without capital is a sure way to failure. Remember you need cashflow, and you may not be a blockbuster out the door. Your restaurant might need to slowly attract customers -- and you need to have funds to survive the initial slow months. It doesn't make sense to start a huge venture without money

Your options are:

1 - find investors willing to bankroll you, but be ready to give up ownership (or percentage thereof) to the investor
2 - wait until you have the resources to apply for a loan
3 - scale down your plans and start a business that fits the resources you already have

A restaurant is not like a web business where you can practically start with no capitalization whatsoever.

Kay
You first work for a restaurant in manarial capacity and save money for a portion of the start up. Then, find a partner (s) to share in the start up who can contribute to the cost and operation. Of course, the partner(s) will receive the share of profit from the restaurant. The share of profit is based on the ratio of partner's investment.

In view of your credit rating and non-availability of any collateral, you have to practically forget about obtaining a loan from banks/financial institutions.

You have been working for 30 years and have not saved a dime and have bad credit? What makes you think you could run a business any better? You are best served by getting your weekly paycheck and letting someone else manage a business. When you can manage your own money in 5-10 years, maybe then you can revisit this idea.

Cat
In today's banking climate? You don't. At least, not by starting with a loan of that amount.

Either scale down your idea, or see if you have friends who would be willing to go in on the project with you, as partners. Perhaps they'd be able to get the loan, and do the financing.

Steve L
You don't maybe you good get a grant but I doubt if you could. In today's loan market your business plan and a dollar bill might get you a cup of coffee some where

adcabreras
You will need a business partner. With the amount of experience that you have I would network your group of contacts and see if anyone who has money is looking to start a restaurant.

The below link provides guidelines and help info on how to get a franchise, home based business and more.

http://www.entrepreneur.com/

You can get a franchise for a lot less. You may have to prove yourself at a smaller franchise before getting the more expensive restaurant.

I wish you great success.
