They will try to bargain on your army men that you're selling for 10 cents a piece and ask you to lower your price on your 25 cent playing cards because the jokers are missing. |

You need to organize all of your stuff, and then publicize it in advance so people will come. Then price them such that the buyer will buy, but you will still make a profit. |

The totally free method:
A few days before the yardsale make posters (on the computor or with markers) that say the date of it and time, and put them down your road in both directions with arrows pointing towards your house. Then in your front yard make a big sign that says Yard Sale, and if you have it at a certain time you can include that too. Then the day of the yard sale put out a lawn chair to sit in, make sure you have plenty of change,and put out all the stuff you're selling.
If sitting outside for hours watching people walk through your stuff sounds boring invite over one of your best friends to just hang with when you get bored.
Also if you're willing to spend some money you can advertise your yard sale on the internet, but I personally think it is a waste of money. |

Preparation-
First, clean everything up. A nasty dresser may go unsold, but just wiping it clean could bring in $20.
Then, pick a date. Maybe ask other people around you if they want to get involved- you may end up with a neighborhood tag sale, and that draws TONS of people.
Price everything. Use pre-made stickers from Walmart, or write your own.
*IMPORTANT* Make signs. Lots of brightly colored signs. Assume everyone who will be coming is lost! Try a walk from the main street to your house. On the main street, you'll need one sign in either direction before your turn, one at the turn, and one for each turn after that. Don;t write a saga on your sign. Just have "YARD SALE" and a big arrow. (It's hard to read a sign with an address at 50mph. Also, you may want to have another person to help out, and to pull down the signs so you can stop selling!)
Set up!
Use lots of tables. People don;t like to bend down to look at stuff on the ground. Lift things up by using benches, tables, sawhorses and plywood- anything! |

Sell your stuff a little over what its worth so you can leave room for bargaining. Also put up signes and make flyers with the date time & address. Remember to bring the flyers wherever you go. |

The most important thing for a yard sale is the yard... If you've got junk to sell, that's the next step... From there it's all about getting the word out and being willing to sell your junk for less than you think it's worth... In all honesty, you're better off donating the stuff and taking the tax deduction. The government gives you a lot of "wiggle room" in terms of the value of donated items, and the tax deduction can lead to a lot more money in your pocket than almost any yard sale ever will... |

Make lots of BIG signs with arrows on them to point people towards your location, and put them up a day in advance. Pre-price everything and if you have no courage in this matter, find someone who does. This way you'll make more money. Set up early, and be ready to wheel and deal. First I'd check out some yard sales in your area this week-end and see how those sorts of things are selling.
Then, if you think it's worth your time, put out signs around your neighbourhood, either make them (but use LARGE lettering LOL) or you can buy them inexpensively at Walmart and just fill-in the blanks.
If you have anything like a Thrifty Nickel (weekly bargain ads) see how much a yard sale ad is, usually about $5.
The day before, don't forget to get at least $20 worth of change.
Decide what you are selling and how little you are willing to take. Stick to it! Also, this has been helpful for me, make a list of your decisions.
Do not let people bully you! (This is the mom in me talking, sorry.)
Invite a friend to sit out the day with you. Otherwise, it can be a long day with no breaks and only you to work any rushes.
Personally, I'd see how much you think you can get on eBay and go that route.. ; )

make a list of all your stuff and then put a price next to them (always be willing to haggle) then put up some signs, some on major streets and some on the minor streets. Then get some tables and wait for the people to come. GOOD LUCK |

start high, and don't forget to be out there at like 8 am. That's when the yard sale customers come out. I sold some junk of mine a couple weeks ago. Made 85 bucks. I was out until 2 and got a wicked burn. Dont' forget the sunscreen and GL!! |
