How do I know if a "work from home" deal is not a scam?
I recently moved and I am seeking employment. Because of the workforce here, finding employment is a little more difficult that I thought in my field of work. Working from home would be ideal, but I do not know the best way to ensure I am not being scammed by a fake company? What are some steps I can take to see if a company is legit?
There are several ways you can look into to find out if a company your looking into is a scam or not. One is checking with the BBB. This cuts out a lot of investigations. If the company is registered with the BBB then you know that they are a legitament company because the BBB does all the inside work. Only members of the BBB are legitament businesses. The BBB investigates this part.

Most of them are scam.. they ask for upfront payment and guarantee that you'll cover it in days.. but then they disappear.. so as a thumb rul if any site asks for upfront payment or joining fees its a scam.
elance and guru are good option you can try to explore others as well.
