Hit estate sales and garage sales on the weekend. Look for items that are visually interesting and clean. Anything vintage or antique will usually sell. You can get some great stuff at yard sales for a cheap price. Think about how much people might be willing to pay for the item and remember to bargain with the seller at garage sales. Most people just want to get rid of their crap - especially on Sundays! Flea markets are also great places to bargain at about 2 or 3 p.m. on Sundays. They usually close around 5 on Sundays and the vendors don't want to have to pack the stuff back up so they are willing to sell it for less.
Also look for exotic items that may have been imported. :)

You can buy brand-name merchandise on sale at stores and sell it for full-price on Ebay. I know people who have done that, and it will turn a profit. |

Depends on what you like. I have a couple of friends who went into the jean business on eBay and have done quite well. They hit yard sales, and clearance sales at stores and popular buy name brands of jeans very cheap, and re-sell them on eBay.
I've had a friend who used to scour yardsales for glassware and collectibles to sell on eBay.
Figure out what sells well, and then work on acquiring those items at a discount to resell. You could also sell items for other people who don't have the time or know-how to list their own items, and take a % of the sale (like online consignment). |

I'm sure there are people like me, that do not understand how ebay works. So, if I have something of good value that I want to sell, I would be willing to give someone a commision for selling it on ebay.
For instance, I just yesterday won a two night cruise to the Bahamas. I do not want to go, so it was suggested I sell it on the internet to the highest bidder. Good idea, but I do not know how to do that, so I probably will throw it in the garbage.
However, if I knew someone local that could do it, we could both profit. I was told it's worth $2,500.00 |
