How do I start a recruitment agency?
The business will be a small business

Trust Me
Have you tried jump leads?

G!
Firstly, A recruitment Agency is just like being a Consultant, so the start up principles are the same.

1) Recruitment Experience - This step is easy because you would already have been in HR etc, so you know about recruitment. This also tells you what sector you would specialise in, ie if you were a lorry driver before, then you could take on Driving as your Specialist feild because you know about the market etc.

2) Analyse the market. If you go into Office Sector, but so are the other 129 agents, your market could be tight, so it would be harder to break open these established competitors. However, if none in your area specialise in Sales Staff, then that could be a gap that needs filled (Or it could be a gap for a reason).

3) You need to find an office as Candidates and clients will be visiting you, and as well as that, you need to furnish it, stock it and get the computers etc. This is your biggest outlay

4) Now you need 2 databases. Anyone you know that could be looking for staff, and any candidates you receive. Call former employers, freinds in businesses, tell your family, get your name.

5) Lastly, an Add in the Phone book will definetly get you going

Of course, you won't have forgotten to tell your tax office that you are self employed, but I don't need to tell you that. As you have probably worked for an agency before stepping out on your own, you will also know that you need to register with the Trade Association, and that there are certain rules etc that they will tell you about.

Have Fun.

Work for a few recruitment agencies for a few months, create a network a reputation, start a business plan and then you can start it.

You would need lots of experience in recruitment for starters!! Then it is a matter of sorting out your premises, gaining business etc etc etc. Contact the REC for related laws and legislation.

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* Start Your Own Executive Recruiting Business by Entrepreneur Press
* The Complete Guide to Owning and Operating a Home-Based Recruiting Business: A Step-By-Step Business Plan for Entrepreneurs by Charrissa D. Cawley
* The Recruiter's Almanac of Scripts, Rebuttals and Closes by Bill Radin
* Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Your Own Staffing Service by Krista Thoren Turner

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

you need a cardboard box painted to look like a computer, glasses, a habit of sending people to the wrong job, a pencil, a labrador, a shoe (pair would be preferable), a cigar smoking monkey who can operate a typewriter and access to fresh melons

Apart from capital, you have to conduct feasiblity studies. Consider the location of the office, the demand or type of work you are going to recruit. Secure all the necessary permits and licenses from government agencies having jurisdiction on your planned business. Hire competent office staff and acquire as much as needed, all the electronics gadget to run an office. Advertise in the leading daily newspaper or dissiminate this information to all your contacts. And most importantly, the would be employer should also be ready, so that in case of hiring, you can immediately deploy them and start the job.
